The Ellipse is located on the north shore of Lake Lemon, NE of Bloomington, SE of Martinsville, and W of Nashville, Indiana. Surrounded by natural spaces and rural countryside, our home is nestled on the treeline of 14 wooded acres overlooking natural watershed ravines. Built in 2018, our cozy home has 2 bedrooms, living room, full kitchen & full bath, tucked into an efficient 26 X 26 footprint. A spacious screened porch stretches across the front, nearly doubling the common living space.

The space
THE CICADAS ARE COMING - 2021 marks the reemergence after 17 years of Brood X, or the Great Eastern Brood, of periodical cicadas. These are large, winged, mostly harmless flying insects known for their almost deafening buzz. From mid-May through July, the unending cacophony may great you and be sustained through your visit. Insect carcasses also may pepper the area trees and wooded area. Please be aware that the racket can get pretty loud!

The Ellipse is a smoke-free and drug free home and property.

Up to two dogs are allowed with prior approval and payment of an additional cleaning fee of $40 for one and $60 for up to two canine visitors.

We have installed fiber optic WiFi. A smart TV is available using your own log in accounts. Cell phone service is spotty; check with your carrier regarding the use of WiFi calling for best service.

Our neighborhood includes mostly summer homes and the road ends at the dam and spillway minimizing vehicular traffic. Human walkers with and without dogs are frequent by-passers on the road. An occasional horse or loose cow can wander by without warning. Deer, bobcat, squirrels, turkeys, and other wildlife meander about.

We are 25-30 minutes from Bloomington, Nashville, and Martinsville, just 10 minutes off I-69 exit 125 (Sample Road).

We offer three ways to make coffee. We have a Tea Kettle, quaint (Mr.) coffee maker, cone drip filter, and French press; no no single serve K-cup option here! Tea assortment and cocoa available.

Our home style décor includes natural cut trim from a local lumber mill and accented by simplicity. The high ceiling living space opens to awning windows.

In season, frog calls and songbirds fill the air from dawn to past dusk. Purple Martins roost nearby. All native woodpeckers live in the area with seasonal showings of several types of hummingbirds. A wide variety of flying species call from trees, field, and lake. Eagles and Great Blue Herons are common visitors. You might hear an owl, cicadas, or a coyote, spot deer or turkeys sampling apples across the field, or headed to the lake for a drink of water, You might just choose to watch as the sun rises or sets, or view the moon, planets, and stars.

We have room to run and play, catch fireflies, take a walk, explore nature, or enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of local wine purchased on your wine tour stops.

Four kayaks are available for guests to use on our lake or bring your canoe or kayaks for cruising on the 1650 acre Lake Lemon (Lake Lemon Conservancy District). Paddles and adult sized PFDs included. You may bring your own, of course. No permits are needed for canoe or kayak cruising on our lake. Access to dock for swimming, evening fire, or boating lake access is normally available; please check with us regarding access.

Fishing requires valid Indiana resident or visitor state fishing license which may be purchased on line if over 17.

The Ellipse is not located directly on the water although access to our waterfront is reached via a short walk along the driveway, across the road and down the hill to our private area. See photos for a view of the hill to access our dock area. Vehicles are not allowed to go up and down the hill; however, we do have wheeled baskets and a wagon which may be borrowed.

Location

Unionville, Indiana, United States

Lake Lemon is a beautiful and often missed, municipally owned- reservoir filled primarily by Bean Blossom Creek and tucked between forested rolling hills of southern Indiana. Indianapolis Monthly recently called the lake "southern Indiana's hidden gem."

We are surrounded by state forest and located on a dead-end road terminating at the spillway and dam. A cleared trail stretches behind the cabin for short walks. Longer hikes and recreation opportunities are close by at state and national parks & forests. Within a short distance you can use dozens of city parks, and reclaimed railways.

Bloomington is a hub for sustainable ventures, a year-round farmers market, musical and dramatic performances by local and national artists, the annual Lotus Festival, Hilly Hundred, Brown County Artist Studio tours, Indiana University events, and so much more.

Over a dozen wineries and distilleries are nearby nearby with a cadre of craft beer locations.

Nashville and Brown County State Park are national treasures with shopping, art events, and nature adventures to fill a week of exploration.

Martinsville hosts a hearty downtown with recent restoration, a 100-year old candy shop, children' bookstore, and niche restaurants. The Fall Foliage Festival each October is a particularly exciting event.

The are is also fabulous locations for bicycle rides and tours, mushroom hunting, wildflower forays in April, hunting and fishing, bird watching, paddling, state parks, and nature preserves.

The big house is known as “The Postal Club”, a story we will share with guests. It is a solar powered home overlooking the western part of Lake Lemon. As a semi-retired professional couple, we are often around the property and are happy to provide information regarding anything in particular, day trios, and opportunities in the area.

NOT AVAILABLE DURING COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS - A lake tour by boat may be possible in season. Lake side fishing with purchased state license may be available.
