Welcome to DIscovery House, the entire house and front and back decks are yours to enjoy. A combination of a step back into the slower pace of the past as this is a 1950’s  - 1000 square foot bungalow with a few 2020 amenities.  Discovery House has retained its original character, highlighted by the warmth of original Douglas Fir flooring.

Throughout the house are original arts and crafts from our international travels that bring a special creative energy and peacefulness to our home.

The space
Welcome to DIscovery House, a combination of a step back into the slower pace of the past as this is a 1950’s  - 1000 square foot bungalow with a few 2020 amenities.  Discovery House has retained its original character, highlighted by the warmth of original Douglas Fir flooring.

It was originally a 3 bedroom bungalow which has been updated to 2 bedrooms with a very large front/living room.  The living room has two couches and a Smart TV attached to wifi so that you might watch a Netflix movie to relax or enjoy one of the very many books that are there for you to read.  The front space also has a daybed with a desk and chair if you are wanting a space to write or create.

Both of the bedrooms face the back of the house which looks onto a back deck and the rainforest.  One bedroom has a queen bed along with a dresser and closet. The second bedroom has a double bed with dresser and closet.

The full well stock kitchen has a view of the end of the Tahsis inlet.  It has a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, blender, cooking and baking supplies.  There are also food basics - coffee, an assortment of teas and some canned foods there for your use.  There is also a stand alone deep freeze if you are needing it to store fish.  A BBQ and deck furniture for relaxing are on the large back deck.  The back deck edges the rainforest.  The original backyard garden with herbs has gone wild but you are welcome to help yourself to any herbs that might add to your meals while there.  You might enjoy your morning coffee on the small front deck with its view of the inlet.

The bathroom with its shower and bathtub has shampoo/soap, toilet paper supplied along with towels.  There is extra supplies and towels along with an emergency kit in the hall linen closet.

In the back entry area is a washing machine with detergent if you wish along with an ironing board and iron.

There are playing cards and board games for your enjoyment while you are there.

Where you’ll be

Tahsis, British Columbia, Canada

Tahsis has two separate areas -- there is a lower part that is built around the river that you pass when you first come in. This area is where the Oceanview is located - a small grocery store with restaurant. Also located in this area is the hardware store, the recreational centre, the recycling/freestore area. As you drive into Tahsis and keep following the road along the end of the inlet you pass on the left the old mill site and then go up a hill into the second area of Tahsis. This area is all built on rock and has some steep inclines. In this area is the Westview marina with their resturant and live weekend music on the deck , Sally's restaruant with its outdoor deck that you can sit out on and look down the inlet, the village office, the Health Unit with a 24/7 nurse on call, the post office, public boat launch, and Discovery House.

There are wonderfu walking trails on either end of Tahsis. The Leiner River estuary walk begins at the parking lot about 100 metres before the road leaves the trees and hits the water as you are driving into Tahsis from Campbell River. The Trail of the Bull is on the other end of Tahsis -- if you keep driving along the water and take on turns you will end on a road outside of the village that will go up a hill. At the top of the hill is a sign for the entrance of the Bull of the Woods trail, a lovely maintained trail along the ocean cliff with lookout benches along the way.

Closer to DIscovery House is a lovely groomed trail that begins about 100 metres from the house. When you come out of the house and look at the water turn right and go up the street to the top of the hill where the street does a 'U' -- the entrance to the trail is there. The trail is a short 10 minute approximately walk down to the street where post office goverment boat launch area is.

Hi I am Kim. I have had a home in Tahsis for 17 years. I found Tahsis while researching a book we have of Captain Cook’s third voyage which took him to Friendly Cove which is at the mouth of Tahsis inlet. Seventeen years ago, when I first drove into Tahsis alone I saw the inlet and the words - this is heaven popped out. It is a place I find very peaceful. I have done, during the especially quiet winter months - a number of silent retreats. It is the place where I connect most fully to nature and who I am. I share this space so you might get a glimpse of the beauty that is here on earth.
