Magical handcrafted cabin on 20 acres featured in coffee table books/magazines and the happy place for many events (please contact owner), we built by hand what has been described as "wood poetry." This cabin for pure Island fun.... kids and adults think it's like a tree house, a wood castle, a true destination in itself on an island that is a true destinaton. Prissy folk, please get a condo in town as you might be exposed to treehouse stairs and fireflies... 57 five star reviews on other site

The space
Fire pit, hammock by pond, goose down blankets and high thread count sheets, and half mile to best beach on the island, Big Bay Town Park.
Well, that was until Covid-19.... now you have to bring your own blankets per regulations.
The stairs to the loft are flat treads but steep. There is a gate provided for kids, but if you are uncomfortable with heights, this is not a great space for you. Kids do love it as it feels like a tree house... but not for you if you have mobility issues or fear of heights... only one bedroom is downstairs and there is a single bed, a trundle under it, and a bunk above accessible by ladder.
Also, please know basic Madeline Island home issues that all homes have... it's an island which does wick up water in the summer months as the island is a part of the wetland water filtration system of the Great Lakes... so in a heavy rain year, the ground can be damp. Also, come Fall, all island homes have to fight mice coming in for the winter to camp. So while we have a system set up in the locked laundry room, you might encounter a random mouse at that time... but this is not from neglect. These are just normal season things on the island. Full disclosure... there are mosquitoes in summer, and ticks too... bring bug stray as needed. Also, late summer there are sometimes duck mites that one can get in the calmer waters on the lake near town.
None of these things should dissuade you from an amazing vacation... but we just don't want you surprised and your sense of relaxation interrupted. It is a super magical spot, one my family and small children lived in for years after we built it by hand, and then have had elders come to vacation from many locations. But if you want a standard home, or condo, go to town. We are highly rated and a special destination for over 15 years... but choose this magical spot if it is right for you.

Guest access
The whole enchilada. The barn is not for guest use and sometimes rented to vacationers.

Other things to note
If the septic alarm goes off, that means the tank is full... please call Island Septic to pump at 715-747-
Bring bug spray. If you being a pet, treat them for ticks as lymes is present. Also, avoid swimming in front of the Beach Club late summer as it’s possible to get duck mites there.
