This is our family base. It's the place we go to relax and spend time with friends and family. It's important for us that our guests really enjoy the Villa, feel at home and take care of it as if it were their own. Take a look at our reviews and see what our guests have said.

Families and intergenerational groups are especially welcome. We have young children ourselves so are used to some reasonable wear and tear. We do insist though that children are forbidden from playing with footballs etc inside the house.

Contracts will only be agreed with people 25 years old and over.

July and August, Christmas and New Year are our absolute star periods with huge demand so we have a minimum 5 day stay. We offer excellent discounts on Winter (Jan - March) stays of 5 days and longer.

The villa was a good place to stay for a party of five adults. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom and the kitchen was well stocked with appliances. Nathalie was very helpful in directions and put out a welcome snack for us. It is a great place to relax and get away from TV and wifi. We all enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to any group.

A truly magnificent and unique house. We enjoyed staying there very much. The house is very big and comfortable, ideal for 3 to 4 families or as in our case one family of 3 generations. Located centrally in the Rhine Valley both the German side (Freiburg, Europa Park) and the French side (Colmar, Riquewihr, Straßburg) can be reached within less than an hour. We liked the unique architectural style (Bauhaus and Art Deco) and the historical significance of the building. The huge garden is really like a private park, big enough for a morning jog. Ruth is a wonderful host. We talked several times on the phone to arrange for a dinner delivered to the house. Nathalie, the housekeeper went out of her way to arrange the delivery of delicious food for us. We can´t wait to go back.

Our stay was wonderful for a large family with children. The villa is imposing, modern, and beautiful, but the garden and surrounding grounds were even more impressive for us and we spent a great deal of time outside. The nearby village is also beautiful and we enjoyed going to the bakery every day. The villa is very close to a canal and we took our bikes and it was definitely a highlight of the trip for everyone. There was also an abundance of toys in the house for children which we enjoyed. The villa is simply furnished and some of the bathrooms have not been updated, which would be our only suggestions for improvement.

Great place, wonderful garden. Very helpful host. We stayed here with two small children, which was very pleasant because of the availability of cots, high chairs and toys.

The Villa St. Martin is a place steeped in history and with a garden - o.k. perhaps more a park - to die for. We really enjoyed our stay and followed some of the suggestions in the extensive folder provided by our host. Canoeing on the Ill was a favourite and dinner at Hotel d'Illwald a pleasure. We were lucky with the weather and spent most of our time in one of the outdoor sitting spaces. But the living/dining room was an excellent and huge alternative when it got too cool in the evenings. The Villa is not cheap, but when Ruth writes that all amenities are provided, then that is exactly what happens. Not only bedding, towels, cutlery, plates, wine glasses etc. etc. but als the practical small things that tend to be missing in a lot of houses, like matches, toilet paper in all the bathrooms, dish washing liquid and so on . And then there were the extras: fresh flowers in the rooms (These lovely, lovely roses!), a bottle of wine and some excellent biscuits in the kitchen. a local jam for breakfast ... you get the idea. We all loved our stay and may well return.

Because of our work, my family and I have lived in a number of different countries. We moved to Alsace in 2010 when we discovered this incredible house and garden, fell in love with it and decided to make it our family home.

We were initially attracted to Alsace because of its unique history and its location at the crossroads of three countries. Alsace is one of the least known regions in France. By living there, we have come to discover an incredible richness of culture, history and language. We have discovered the wines and the food, the beautiful landscapes and the wonderful people.

Above all, we fell in love with this villa and magnificent garden - tucked away in this incredible corner of Europe, full of history, beauty and tranquility. The house and gardens are impressive but we have designed it to reflect our needs as a family and for our guests. The kitchen is fully equipped, there is a good supply of things for children to play with and places to play and above all a series of intimate spaces to cook together, eat together, read a book and relax. The villa has featured in a number of design magazines and most recently in Gestalten/ Monocle magazine's Guide to Cosy Homes (2015).

Over the years, we have developed a close circle of friends in the area and a brilliant network of people who help us take care of the villa. We welcome all who will enjoy and respect its beauty and tranquility.
