Camp in our private tipi, kayak on the pond, fish, swim, try a dutch oven meal, everything provided except food and sleeping bags. 5 miles from Williamsburg and I-80, within 30 minutes of Amana Colonies, Outlet Mall, Fireside Winery.

The space
Camping in a tipi, you will need to bring your own sleeping bags, air mattress, or cot as needed; no beds are provided, however we have up to two twin size air mattresses that can be set up for you for an additional fee. An electrical cord can be used to run a fan if you need to bring one. The tipi is open and not screened in. Some campers like to bring insect or mosquito netting for their sleeping comfort. During rain events, we have an inside rainfly however, the tipi is an open air shelter and we cannot guarantee a 100% dry shelter if we experience long, heavy rains. The tipi sleeps 5 to 6 adults and up to 10 children. The 18 foot diameter tipi has a fire ring the center that will set up for a night fire. During cold or rainy periods the fire can used throughout the day. Firewood will be provided. If you wish, the fire ring can be removed ( great idea when the tipi is filled with kids).
There is a private pond and beach area. The pond water is clean for swimming and playing but is a natural body of water with plants and fish present. The prairie and woods trails are designed for hiking and playing. Feel free to walk through the prairie and woods, mindful that these areas are wildlife areas and of an uneven grade.
Our rustic restroom includes running water, wash basins and hot outdoor shower. There is a night light and electricity at the bathroom site. It is an outhouse so toilet paper is provided and stored in our fish mailbox to keep the mice out.
The picnic area includes water and electric access, fire ring, cooking equipment, including dutch ovens and utensils, dinnerware, kitchen wash basins and Weber grill are available. Firewood is provided.

Guest access
Guests will have access to all necessary cooking, fire and recreational equipment including kayaks, canoe, pfd's, fishing gear, pond nets. Cookware includes dutch ovens, marshmallow sticks, pie irons, Weber grill, cooking accessories tub, dinnerware tub, firewood, matches, paper. Fire ring, tables and chairs, rustic restroom, water, electricity, outdoor shower.

Other things to note
Campers sleeping in the tipi will find the floor carpeted with outdoor carpeting and rugs. (Twin air mattresses are available for a $10 additional fee) A covered fire pit is set up in the center. Please use the small firewood pieces for this fire pit.
Feel free to bring your own air mattress along with your sleeping bag and pillows.
We cannot control the weather and we have seen everything from 4 inch rains to straight-line winds at our farm. We know that the tipi is secure in the strong winds. However, it does have a smoke hole at the point of the tipi. If you choose to have a fire in the tipi, the smoke flaps can be closed but not completely. When we expect rain, the fire pit can be removed, the rain fly and ozan are set up to keep campers dry. When the smoke flaps are closed appropriately, some rain can still come in, especially in severe rain events. We are flexible when severe weather prevents campers from using the site.
The tipi is an open shelter so insects and spiders will sometimes find their way in. If you would like to bring an insect/mosquito net for your sleeping comfort, that is fine, but please do not put holes in the canvas to set it up.
Campers will also need to bring what ever food they would like to eat, including spices and seasonings. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking over the fire or charcoal grill. This includes three sizes of Dutch ovens, backpacking cooking pans, Dutch oven accessories, a grill for the fire ring and a Webber grill with briquettes and chimney starter. The idea is to keep it simple for our campers, it is an adventure after all!
New this year, We have Walking Stick Adventures T-shirt’s in children and adult sizes available at the campsite. They are $15 each and we can accept cash or check if you are interested. An envelope is provided in the tub.

I am a naturalist who loves being outdoors. My husband Kent and I are restoring a 10 acre farmstead and love sharing our tipi and pond area. I have been teaching outdoor education for over 25 years. My children and now grandchildren are my pride and joy and I can't wait until they are old enough to "camp" in grandma's tipi. We like things simple, rustic and peaceful. We garden fruits, vegetables and lots of native plants. My husband is becoming a winemaker and beer master. We love living here and enjoy our free time "working" on the farm.

During your stay
Once we meet with guests to provide some tipi and equipment information, we allow them their privacy. The timber provides a visual and sound barrier. We are available to them at our home if they need anything,
