I have traveled the world. I have stayed in many places. I've even become a bit jaded and used to little things not being right. I am not much of a "tourist." I do not care if I see another temple in my life! Ok maybe Ankor Wat, but...
When I travel, I like to meet people. I am a people person. I like meeting, helping, knowing and having them teach me those odd little things that make life richer, better and more satisfying.
Ons B&B is run by a charming couple and their 3 year old son. I do not feel they are working hard to Take Care of ME! They are just doing it. It is effortless, causal, but impeccable.
Ons B&B is small and simple, but feels larger than it looks. My room is spacious. My bed is kingsized. When I ask for some little thing, within a few minutes it shows up. It does not ever feel like they rushed to do anything and it always shows up before I expect it. It is a taking care that feels like I have never imposed, or been a problem. I never feel like they have gone out of their way. I just feel like I am a part of their family, but not like they made the effort to make me feel welcomed. They just welcomed me.
No one wears a uniform. The one staff member is quite, friendly and practices his Japanese with me. I am still not sure how they know I speak Japanese. I learn words in Basa Indonesian, but this is a Balinese couple, so I am learning words in that as well. I forget them, they smile and just repeat. I look bigger than their 3 year old son, in both Balinese and Basa, he is my sempai.
Agun is known for giving better service at a lower price.
For the price, honestly this place should be more run down, the bed older and sagging and the service much lower. This place is a find. It is like finding a diamond at the dump, not that the area surrounding is a dump, this is a quieter neighborhood than Tourist Central Ubud, which is a five minute walk away.
I have never written such a glowing review for anything like this in my rather long life, but it is easy to do. These charming people will be a part of my stories, part of my, "If you are going to Ubud, you should really stay..."
There is no A/C but my room is cool and breezy. Agun replaced perfectly good screens on windows, because they were a bit old and might break soon. I mean really. Who replaces screens that are not broken yet? A guy who wants to make sure you are taken care of.
Way beyond 5 stars in my book.
