Cozy wood cabin in the middle of the hamlet of Shrewsbury—a cottage community with a lot of history! Lots of nature to be seen—Shrewsbury is a bird watcher's paradise. We are minutes from Rondeau Park and Erieau, and a short walk to the shore of Lake Erie.

The space
Small wood cabin with lots of indoor and outdoor seating—inside there is a large sectional couch and recliner in the living room area, while in the kitchen, there is bench seating around a large table where you could gather with friends and family for a meal. The main bedroom is cozy with a comfortable queen bed, while the second bedroom is very small, but highly functional—it has a twin bed and can be set up as an office space.

Outdoors, we have a large sturdy picnic table (with string lights nearby!) where you can eat meals, and a fire pit in the backyard with 4 cozy Muskoka chairs so that you can sit outside and have a bonfire under the stars.

Please note that we live here part-time with our dog, Charlie! We strive to keep the place as clean as possible, of course, but if you have an allergy to dogs, it may be something to consider when booking your stay. We will, however, not be on site during your stay.

Where you’ll be

Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada

Shrewsbury is a small hamlet of about 345 residents on the north shore of Rondeau Bay within the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, in Southwestern Ontario.

It is a unique hamlet with an interesting history! It has the distinction of being the oldest planned community in Chatham-Kent, originally envisioned by Upper Canada Governor, John Graves Simcoe as a County Seat, and port town for the Suffolk County that preceded Kent. The town plan, a series of 5 acre blocks arranged in a regular grid was created on the high ground of Rondeau Bay by Abraham Iredell in 1797 along with the "Communication Road", linking Rondeau Bay with the Thames River and the Military Town of Chatham, to the North.

Shrewsbury is surrounded by marsh wetlands along shore of Rondeau Bay. A home for many fish, amphibian, and bird species including many species at risk. In the summer, canoeing and kayaking along the shore and up the 6 canals and channels reveals the beauty of these wetlands. (Kayaks can be rented in Shrewsbury at Shrewsbury/Rondeau Kayaks & Bait at 105 Brock St.)

Shrewsbury is conveniently located about a 10 minute drive from the village of Erieau where there is a great beach and delicious restaurants, Canada's second oldest provincial park, Rondeau Provincial Park, and the town of Blenheim, Ontario.

We love our little community and we hope you do too!
