The cottage is located on its own 28-acre field at the base of Mt. Adams. We are the farmers next door (ok, with day jobs). The farming part is a work in progress. But while we are having fun figuring it all out, you may enjoy our spare home. It’s just a small cabin with a triple-wide view of the mountain. A great place to rest and rejuvenate or launch your next adventure.

Please no smoking, anywhere.

The space
We like to think of it as a wooden tent with a kitchen, small living area, and a mountain-view deck with a propane fire pit (so you stay warm while stargazing) and a grill. Two small simple bedrooms (one queen bed in each) and a full bath. If you must have AC, you might look elsewhere but truth be told we’ve lived here for 25 years absolutely have never needed it. It’s pretty simple, and we like it that way so hope you do too.

Where you’ll be

Trout Lake, Washington, United States

You’re a mile from “downtown” Trout Lake, aka huckleberry shakes, espresso, or chips at the store. But if you’re coming here to shop, you’re in the wrong place. You are miles from the nearest real town. Then again, Trout Lake, is about as real and as simple as it gets. Mt. Adams Basecamp is the place to be when you have time to stay for a few days; hike the mountain, bike the valley, run the trails, canoe the lake, float the creek, pick huckleberries, bugle with the elk, or just breathe—life is what you make it here.

I'll be your host for Private Cottage on 28-Acres—and are happy to point you in the direction of fun when you are here. We moved here 23 years ago, raised our kids here and know (almost) every nook and cranny of this lovely valley. We love the place and suspect you just might too.

During your stay

This is your vacation, so for the most part we will leave you alone—aside from maybe a wave from the tractor. But if you want us to point you in the direction of outdoor fun or if there’s anything you need that’s not provided, just ask and we will do our best to accommodate your stay.
