Getaway Shores is a modern Scandinavian cabin on the shore of Lake Mitawan in Superior National Forest. The remote, private cabin is located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and surrounded by pristine natural beauty.

Our goal is to provide you with a relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the remote beauty of the North Shore while remaining comfortable with modern amenities and a clean, comfortable living space. All four seasons provide unique, unforgettable adventures and experiences!

The space
UNIQUE ADVENTURES
Getaway Shores offers incredible experiences and unique adventures in all four seasons! Fish, boat, swim, & hike in the warmer months. Snowshoe, cross-country ski, ice fish, and enjoy the sauna in the winter. The cabin has a wood burning stove, an authentic, traditional Finnish sauna, and incredible lake views from every room. Watching the sun set across the lake from the deck will be the highlight of your already unforgettable day!

BOATS & SNOWSHOES
The cabin has a canoe, kayak, fishing boat, and sail boat for you to use for fishing, swimming, and exploring the lake. The front porch is also the dock, so you can easily swim or launch the boats at any moment. In the winter, enjoy the provided sets of snowshoes to hike across the frozen lake.

WILDLIFE
The cabin sits in a grove of soaring red pines and is surrounded by all kinds of wildlife. During your visit, enjoy bird watching and look for all the creatures that often visit our cabin including beavers, moose, loons, bears, eagles, otters, foxes, and more!

OUTDOOR SPACES
Relax in the various outdoor spaces on our property including in the screened in front porch, the dock, three fire pits, Adirondack chairs, the picnic table, the hammock, or the 12'x14' deck with screened in tent and sunken fire pit on our adjacent property. The cabin has modern, comfortable, well-kept furniture indoors and outdoors.

THE PROPERTY
The cabin is built directly on the shore of Lake Mitawan. It is designed to host up to 4 people but can sleep up to 6 people. Located on four acres of mature red and white pines and 220 ft of shoreline, it is a remote, private property across the lake from forested federal land. You will do not see any buildings or neighbors.

TRADITIONAL FINNISH SAUNA
Finnish saunas are a Northern Minnesotan tradition and will be a memorable highlight of your visit. Located in a cozy little A-Frame structure just up the path from the cabin, breath deeply in the steam from a wood burning stove and take in incredible views of the lake. If you want a full Finnish sauna experience, run and jump in the lake or a snow pile after a soak in the sauna!

MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom is 12'x14' and has a comfortable queen sized bed. The sliding patio doors open to the front porch for lake access and beautiful views.

SECOND BEDROOM
The second bedroom room has a comfortable, full-sized Murphy bed and also features beautiful views of the lake.

ADDITIONAL SLEEPING SPACE
The sofa in the living room has a queen sized pull out bed and is very sturdy and comfortable to sleep on.

KITCHEN
The modern kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, full sized gas oven and stove, microwave, large farmhouse sink, and a coffee maker. It is well-stocked with baking pans, pots, utensils, nice wine glasses, dishes, and everything you'll need to enjoy meals by the lake. (Pro tip: The nearest store is 30 minutes away, so we recommend bringing your groceries with you when you arrive!)

BATHROOM
The modern bathroom has a shower with glass doors, a toilet, large vanity with a sink, tiled floors, and a heater.

LIVING ROOM
The wood burning stove is the centerpiece of the cabin's living room. The high ceilings make the space feel open and modern, while the crackling fire will keep you cozy. There are games and music for you to enjoy for rainy days and winter nights that will be just as memorable as the time spent on the lake.

This stay is perfect for artists, writers, painters, birders, hikers, fishers, hunters, and all seeking a restful and adventurous Northern Minnesota experience.

Our cabin has been an spiritual retreat for us over the years. One is always restored, re-charged and inspired when spending time in the northwoods of Minnesota. Solitude, pines, water sports, hikes, birds, flowers are all round you to make you relax and get into your right side of the brain, your creative side. I love Spain, food and good wines. I read a lot and like music.
