The space

(Please read entire description to answer questions about kids, pets, over two people and transportation)

Cozy, colorful antique room with Cuban flare in artist's creative, quirky, ever-evolving home/ work of art. Beautiful bedroom in a home which is not fully completed. One block from the bay beach. Your host, Ted is an old hippie who is young at heart, who will share his eclectic home, warm hospitality, and ideas for a fun-filled island adventure. Enjoy bicycling or hiking around the island, exploring the rocky shore-line, relaxing on the beach and dining at local restaurants. Just a 20 minute ferry ride from Portland. Get away from it all to this memorable and beautiful island spot! Stay here for a laid back island experience and a tower view of sunsets over the Diamond Islands in beautiful Casco Bay that's priceless.

First floor bedroom with shared bathroom on first floor.
*Sinks in bedroom not yet functional.

How do you get here?

You can either park your car for free at your own risk on the street in Portland, at the ferry terminal in Portland for $25.00/ day, or bring your car on the ferry (see below for rates). If you are coming by foot, you can either make arrangements with Ted for pick-up in advance, take the Island Taxi to "Ted's Place," or walk for one mile on Island Avenue to the Tree House. Let Ted know in advance if you would like a ride to or from the ferry for $3.00 per person if more than one, and $5.00 for single person. Either way, we recommend you pack lightly, bringing only what you will need for the time you will stay.

Ted is personable and a fine artist. Ted’s place is absolutely chock full of stuff. There is hardly any area that does not have some art or “ collectible” on it. During our 2 day stay the kitchen sink , countertops and refrigerator were never clear or truly clean. He has a sign i…

Response from Ted:
I'm sorry your stay wasn't so favorable. I wish you had spoken up in the beginning because I could have asked a half a dozen friends on the islnd that I have initiated to Airbnb if they might have had a room to accommodate your needs and this situation would have been relieved. My welcome note expresses, to let me know if you need anything - I do try. I live close to the water on a high water table and cesspools on the island are limiting, so I ask my guests to be conscious of the situation and the environment and use discression. I have been seriously ill, coming out of radiation and chemo and even with help had trouble keeping up. But I'm doing better now. Fortunately, I've rented another facility for storage and the amount of “stuff” in my house has lightened. I still do have many things, objects of art and items being used for projects. Many of my guests enjoy the visuals but I know it doesn't serve everyone. I am sorry my place did not work for you. I wish you well and hope that you will find accommodations that suit you in the future. Best - Ted

Ted's place is amazing. The house has sooo much personality and small touches. We stayed in the Cuba room and were not disappointed. The room was full of awesome art and decorations, complete with a small picture of Fidel! The house is a 20 minute walk from the ferry, and only a …

A student of life, a nomad, a philosopher, a clown, and an artist. I feel fortunate to have a piece of paradise, and love being able to share it.
