About this listing

Cedar Ridge Lodge is a Family home - located on a hillside, just ten minutes from the centre of town in a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking the blues and greens of the Caribbean sea. The Blue room easily accommodates three to five persons with an en-suite bathroom. It is suitable for couples families or sharing friends.

The space

Cedar Ridge Lodge Inn is a home hostel, it is located approximately 10 / 15 minutes from the centre of the town and is serviced by ROUTE (shared taxi). It is off the beaten track, a little away from the town, but easily accessible. It is close to a large shopping plaza with all services. It is an art space, reading space, ‘lying-in-a-hammock chillin space. It is family run and is a space in which to be comfortable, safe and cared for. We are very experienced and knowledgeable as we all work in tourism and will ensure that all questions are answered honestly, in order to guide & support our travelers moving around the island.

Guest access

Guest Access
Travelers are at home on the balcony, under a tree, in the garden; in fact anywhere a space can be captured and personalized to meet the mood and moment. Guests are not encouraged to bring other guests into the space, because it is shared and everyone leaves there stuff around. It is safer and the system works for us to have the privacy and interactions positive for the home.
Guests are allowed access by the front door, someone is always on hand to let them in or an arrangement made for key collection. The house is fully alarmed and monitored by the local security company.

Interaction with guests

Interactions
The house is full of information, support and helping hands: there is a housekeeper / manager - Ms. Madge, and the live in student - Lisa, from time to time there are other persons from the Rastafari Village that lend an hand in meeting the needs of guests. I am also available to give support and interactions as the needs arise. The house is affiliated to the Rastafari Indigenous village and other community projects and activities. Please ask if interested in volunteering at such a project, school or within a community or in supporting any of these educational experiences.

Other things to note

Cedar Ridge Lodge Inn is a ‘home’ hostel. It is located approximately 10 / 15 minutes from the centre of the town, the beaches, shopping and even the airport if the traffic is not too bad. The general area is serviced by a ROUTE (shared) taxi system. Cedar Ridge is the name of the road on Bogue Hill, it is off the beaten track, a little away from the town, but easily accessible.
It is close to a large shopping plaza with all services. It is an art space, a reading space, a ‘lying-in-a-hammock chillin space, most of all it’s a no-stress space.
It is family run and is a space, in which to be comfortable, safe and cared for. Our Housekeeper Ms. Madge is experienced in what she does and Lisa is knowledgeable about things to do and places to go, it is important to ask for whatever is needed. Both persons support me in guiding travellers and providing answers with honesty, clarity, accuracy and integrity for travellers moving around in this new environment.
Other things to note;
We recommend that travelers move around with a cell phone, preferably bringing an old unlocked one so that they can purchase a local SIM card to make calls for onward bookings or otherwise. We have wifi in the house so communication is easy.
We provide the following listing for travelers to bring:
•own toiletries
•favorite dried cereals
•nuts and grains
•cheese if you love it
•mosquito repellent, sun block, any medication you use or may need
•and a fold up raincoat.
These things can be expensive here and almost all our guests engage with them.
Cedar Ridge is also a part of a community of Rastafari and we often make donations to their development: Guests often ask what to bring for donations: the response is "art and craft making stuff" we also say: first-aid stuff bandages, scissors, gloves etc. or agricultural tools or organic seeds, and we also say...bring whatever you feel would be good to donate to community development - pencils, paper, crayons etc.

Staying at Cedar Ridge was a pleasure. The home is beautiful and comfortable, and the view from the balcony was unmatched by any other I saw in Jamaica. Because of staying here, my friend and I learned how to use route taxis, a much more affordable alternative to the overpriced regular taxis most tourists use, and we also got the chance to see more of Montego Bay than just the hip strip or the resorts. I am overwhelmingly happy to have made the choice to stay here. Although it may look a bit far from town on the map, the taxis are prompt and cost less than 2 USD to get anywhere. Every time I left, I was in town less than 30 minutes after requesting a taxi. Arlene also provided tons of information on where to visit, gave my friend and I an incredible lesson on Jamaican history, and was generally a pleasure to stay with, as were all the other people who were there at the same time as me. When I return one day, there is no doubt that I will stay here again.

Thank you for choosing us Aidan, its always a surprise when you meet people who show you something about your space that you did not notice before, and you and your friend did that by just absorbing the spaces and the experiences. Take care and walk good as you travel the earth. Blessings Arlene

first, Arlene - how to not LOVE her. warm, open, caring, she really cares for you and her island. The house is high up top a Bogue Hill where the view is spectacular! The first night we were in one room (due to overlap) that had a bunk bed and one single. perfect. Then we moved to our real room. double bed and a twin, our own bathroom. both rooms had a ceiling fan to keep cool. The dorm is downstairs. Location is quiet and residential, a taxi can take you down to the Hip Strip or anywhere on the island. Arlene will help you! If you want to be on the beach or hip strip, this is not the place but BUT please know, this view is worth it, the people are worth it. The house is tranquil and peaceful. I loved it. WE loved it!

Cedar Ridge is a family home converted into a hostel, (everyone grown up and moved away so now we have space!). The house nevertheless, if always full of young people passing through and sharing their lives, experiences and perspectives with guests - its usually quiet, but never a dull moment.
My son started the hostel as a way to assist with expenses for the house. We have a lot of fun with guests as we have lots of information about touring the island, lots of networks to connect folks to and there are almost always events to recommend. You host, Arlene is Jamaican with lots of international experiences, the community is a quiet cul de sac with only a few houses on a hillside not far out of town. The culture is Rastafari, Vegan and artsy, we look forward to sharing.
ADDITIONALLY...
We are bringing on stream cottages at the Rastafari Indigenous Village, they are not up officially as yet but we are managing three of them for a trial period. So if you are specifically interested in natural, outdoorsey, rustic and completely ITAL. Please ask
