Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Cedar Bluff is our home on a forested acreage at the edge of wilderness on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, BC. It’s hard to believe we’re just 8 minutes from the Langdale ferry terminal, because it feels like you’re in the remote, coastal backcountry of British Columbia.

It’s the perfect, easy getaway from Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Or the perfect edge-of-wilderness, Canadian experience destination for visitors from further abroad.

The space
The View
From our cliff on Witherby Point, Cedar Bluff commands striking ocean and mountain views to the southeast, overlooking Howe Sound and Gambier island. Below the cliff, the Twin Creeks log sort gives a dynamic backdrop to the view, adding to the iconically-Canadian nature of this rural BC setting.

The Sounds
Some view the sounds of the log sort as an imposition on the natural quiet of the surrounding forest. But the forest is not deterred! From song birds in the morning; to hooting owls at night; to the rutting of elk and the uncanny, nocturnal screeching of bobcats; to howling Howe Sound during a storm; or to the raucous, pinecone-bombardier-squirrels -- the forest around us is also far from silent...

The Cabin
Apart from our main house, your getaway cabin is privately nestled among giant cedar and fir trees. It's a 540 sq. ft. one-bedroom cabin. Sliding glass doors from the living room and from the bedroom open onto the 300 sq. ft. covered deck.

Enjoy cooking? The kitchenette is fully equipped with a gas range, full-height fridge with bottom freezer and a BBQ on the deck. Coffee lover? We provide a French press and a Nespresso machine -- the choice is yours!

There’s a large wardrobe in the hall, and a generous closet in the bedroom. You can do your own laundry, if needed, in the stacked Blomberg washer/dryer.

The bathroom has in-floor heating and a large, glass-encased rain-shower and hand- shower. While the living area is heated by a cozy, gas fireplace. The sofa folds out for additional sleeping space.

Naturally, there’s also a large, flatscreen TV and (very) high speed internet.

Guest access
Our property is 6.8 acres, although more than half of it is below the cliff.

The cabin, of course, is all yours during your stay. You can also use the outdoor spaces immediately adjacent to the cabin. For example, off the cabin's deck, you can descend the stairs to a small, mossy knoll that will make you feel like you're actually "entering" the spectacular view. There's a homemade chair and bench hidden in the salal, which you're free to relax at.

If you're facing the water, our property extends a fair distance to your left, through the thick trees. Feel free to explore, but please take care when you're close to the edge of the bluff — it's a long way down! There are beautiful walks around Witherby Point.

Other things to note
We are dog lovers, but cats can't be accommodated, unfortunately because our own dog would want to chase it, and because James is quite allergic to cats.

NOTE REGARDING TAXES: We are required by law to collect and remit 5% GST, which is the Canadian Goods & Services Tax. GST is built-in to our prices.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Wildlife
From the comfort of the cabin deck you can sometimes see orcas in Thornbrough Channel. Bald eagles live here and enjoy the updrafts coming off our cliff. A herd of elk, black bears and deer all call this their home, along with us. We see them quite regularly. On a quiet evening, the ferret who lives next to the cabin might stop by to look curiously in the window. Songbirds, enormous ravens, tiny humming birds, grouse and wood- peckers are prevalent. I once saw a red-tailed hawk; and even the haunting-yet- comforting calls of loons can sometimes be heard from the waters below.

Outdoor Activities
Right behind Witherby Point, rises Mount Elphinstone. On its lower apron is “Sprockids” — a popular mountain biking destination and a seemingly endless web of hiking trails. Further up the coast is Canada’s longest (180 km) network of hut-to-hut Sunshine Coast hiking trails.
There’s so much to explore and do at our doorstep!
Hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, beaches, snow-shoeing and backcountry skiing, swimming (warm lakes!), golfing, scuba diving, scenic flights, canoeing, camping, rock climbing, and on and on...

Culture, Food and Sights
A few of our favourite cafes are just 10-15 minutes away in the town of Gibsons: Beachcomber, Black Bean, Bliss and More. Many artists live on the Sunshine Coast. Their studios and boutiques can be found tucked away, around every other corner. There are simply too many hidden gems to name them all here.

Canoe Tripping
In years past, we travelled all over BC to do backcountry canoe tripping. We would pick a new and different circuit of lakes or rivers every year. But our favourite —and the only one we ever went to twice — is on the Sunshine Coast: the Powell River Canoe Circuit.
Make Cedar Bluff Cabin your launching point for your next canoe trip adventure. Bookend your trip with a stay in the comfort of our cabin, both before and after your backcountry adventure.

We lived in Vancouver for 12 years before deciding to make a permanent move to the Sunshine Coast. While looking for a property to build our house and cabin on, we stumbled upon Witherby Point and were immediately smitten by its remote, rugged feeling, forested acreage and breathtaking views — all within an easy 8 minute drive to the ferry! We thought you would love it too, so we decided to build a cabin to share our discovery with others looking for a remote-feeling, yet easy-to-get-to getaway where nature can be enjoyed, literally from your doorstep, while staying in cozy, modern comfort. We call it Cedar Bluff. When you see the trees all around and the view from the top of our cliff, you’ll know why.
