Welcome to rural Central Oregon, where the nights are silent and the sky is filled with stars! If you came to Bend to get away from the noise of city life then this is the perfect place for you to get away. Relax on the porch and watch the elk, deer, wild rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and birds go by as you sip your coffee. Take a stroll through the neighborhood and end up at the Deschutes River. Bring your kayak to the boat launch. 10 minutes to Sunriver, 20 to Bachelor and 30 minutes to Bend.

The space
Private Studio with separate entrance and coded door so you can come and go as you please.
We understand that some people prefer to be greeted and others prefer to be left alone. Since our work schedule can be chaotic, we will likely NOT greet you upon arrival, which some may see as a benefit since they sought out a private entrance for a reason. Others are put off by this, so if this is the case please let us know and one of us (likely Mark since his schedule is more flexible) can meet you and show you the space.
The kitchenette is fully stocked with silverware and dishes, including bowls and plates, a full knife set, drinking glasses, pint and wine glasses, a microwave, mini fridge, Kuerig, and breakfast items such as fruit cups and oatmeal. The type of coffee we provide varies, but we find people generally like the medium roast beans, so we try to provide that when able.
The bathroom is a full size bathroom with shower and bath tub, a sink with a water filter for drinking water, a small window and 2 or more bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths. We try to provide a variety of amenities, and we ask you use only what you forgot to bring yourself. The quality of items varies due to the fluctuation in availability of single use items since the pandemic began.
The bed is queen sized, medium plush softness, with a set of cotton sheets and a quilt comforter. Please let us know before your visit if you require extra linens. Bend gets cold at night and the room is heated by electric wall heaters. These heaters, if you are not used to them, can get a room very warm, but do seem to take a while, so be sure to set the thermostat to your comfortable temperature when you first arrive. There is an additional heater in the bathroom you can use to help get the room up to temp faster. Make sure to turn it off when you're done because it doesn't have a regulation thermostat like the other one!
Outside you'll find your own private deck with a couple chairs to rest in. During the summer there will be bugs. There's no way around it, we're in the woods. There is bug spray in the room for use.
You are welcome to use the grill to cook with, and sit at the outdoor table to have your meals year round, however there will be snow on the porch in the winter, and may hinder accessibility. Please clean the grill after use.
To use the grill, turn all three knobs on and individually light the three different sections with the long handled lighter. The igniter only works sometimes, and only seems to light the middle burner anyways. We just got this grill, and are still working out the kinks.
The space outside is lit with string lights and motion sensor lights, so you should be able to access your car without issues at night. We like it well lit.
The driveway has a few cars parked in it, some in use and some spares. Please park in front of the garage door as we don't use it for vehicles, there should be a spot available at all times unless we're working in the garage.
Please do not drive over our lawn and park near the room - even during the winter when there is snow, we still have grass and possibly other items such as hoses under the snow.
Feel free to go check out the ducks, but please don't lean on or enter their enclosure as you may break the wood. They don't always smell amazing up close, but they are cute and quack a lot. They are in their teenage years and are very fearful right now, but you can try to bribe them into friendship with leafy greens. Please don't feed them bread or rice.

Guest access
A private, partially fenced yard area just outside the front door with a private deck is specifically for guess use. Tenants in main home have their own fenced yard to remain separate. Shared driveway and guests are welcome to use the acre wooded area to play in or to run dogs in. A barbecue and outdoor seating area is shared but guests are welcome to use as well.

Other things to note
This is considered a "rural" property, and as such we live a rural lifestyle. The neighborhood has no sidewalks or street lights, and we have a gravel driveway. We sometimes are mid-home-improvement project and may have tools in sight, but they're never in your way or your area.
If you REALLY like to hear them go cluck or quack try tossing some leafy greens over the fence at them and watch them go nuts!
Our chickens are particularly sneaky and keep managing to find their way over the fence. If they are bothering you let us know and we'll come fetch them, otherwise we're used to them getting out and roaming the yard. No, they're not supposed to, but they respect no authority from us any longer 😅

Due to COVID-19, for our safety and yours, we may not meet during your stay. We do not mean this to be rude or unfriendly, but a mere consequence of the social distancing recommendation. We’d love to say hi from afar if you see us on the property, however please refrain from shaking hands or coming within the 6 foot recommended bubble and we will do the same.
We’d like to provide you with some cleaning information so you can feel safe in a homeshare situation such as ours. Please understand that we are your cleaning service and while we are not professionals, Kendall works in the medical industry and tries to implement the same cleanliness and sterilization techniques that she uses when cleaning at work, including wearing masks and gloves during the cleaning process. Some things you can expect us to do between stays are:
Wiping every surface with a peroxide or ammonia based cleaner.
Stripping the bed and replacing sheets, pillowcases and comforter with clean bedding, then washing with detergent, color safe bleach, and softner.
Vacuuming carpet and vinyl flooring, underneath the bed, dressers, and chairs
Mopping vinyl flooring with floor cleaner with a peroxide or ammonia base
Washing used towels in room with detergent, softener, and bleach, then washing a second time with vinegar to soften
Hand washing the tops, bottoms, and handles of all dishes and silverware, including the single use Keurig pods (we’re eliminating future k-cups for environmental reasons and providing fresh beans instead)
Wiping out and disinfecting the microwave, coffee grinder, Keurig inside and on top, tray of food, Keurig drip tray, fridge front and inside shelves
Cleaning handle and tops of salt and pepper shaker
Check under bed for forgotten items
Spray and scrub tub, shower walls, faucet and tub handle with an ammonia based cleaner, then rinse with hot water.
Clean mirror with window cleaner and weekly or sooner if dirty clean the inside of the windows in the bathroom, studio and door, and the large mirror in the main room
Dust and clean the bathroom vent, top of the fan blades, shelving and posters weekly or sooner if dirty
Spray toilet top, both sides of seat, rim, bowl, base, and floor around base with an ammonia based cleaner and scrub the inside of the bowl with toilet cleaner and scrub brush
Replace the toilet paper, paper towels, and soap if low
Replace the complimentary toiletries, food, and coffee
Vacuum the chair and footrest
Wipe off the deck table and chairs
Heat and scrub the grill down
Mow the lawn, weed whack
Poop scoop forgotten guest pet’s poop

Due to COVID-19 we’ve implemented further cleaning practices to keep you and your loved ones safe. These are additional to the initial cleaning duties already listed. This includes:
Lysol spray all high-use items such as:
Light switches
Door handles
Dresser handles
Cabinet handles
Fan pulls
Blind openers, pull tabs and twist openers
Television remotes and lamp switches
Sound maker
Headboard and footboard
Table and chairs
Sink and shower handles
Window locks
Fridge front and handle
Unused toiletries
Chair arm rests
Rubbing Alcohol sprayed on food grade items such as
Kitchen appliances

Unused silverware and dishes left in the drawers
Chair and footrest fabric
Fabric curtains

We spend several hours after each stay making sure the studio is the cleanest we could possibly make it.

Oregon Water Wonderland is a great neighborhood to live in and to visit! You'll see a few people strolling their pups through the neighborhood occasionally, and throw you a smile and a wave, but for the most part you have the area to yourself. Most people have their own acreage and like to spend their time relaxing to themselves. When I moved here the first thing I noticed was the friendly atmosphere, and laid back lifestyle. It moves a little slower here, and we all like it that way!
