The Communal Areas

Living zone 1 - Open plan kitchen/dining/living. This spacious area includes a quirky “Mexican bar” corner. Large reclining lounge suite and chairs look out onto the stunning bush setting. This area features floor to cathedral-ceiling windows and benefits from split system heating/cooling. The well appointed kitchen provides all your modern necessities including the all important Moccamaster coffee machine (beans and grinder provided). Double-door fridge and double-drawer dishwasher mean you can cater to the whole weekend’s meal and snacking needs. Enjoy meals in the dining space (seats 8) and/or at the counter. Breakfast cereals, tea, coffee, Milo and 1L UHT milk are provided with compliments!
Living zone 1 has access to the upstairs outdoor deck.

Living zone 2 - Lounge Room. A retro “sunken lounge” with Coonara wood heater and outdoor deck. Indoor 6+ seater couch, well stocked bookshelf, stereo/speaker system with LP player, large TV, DVD player, Apple TV (Netflix). Lounge features a Coonara wood heater to ensure relaxation in comfort, even on the coldest winter night. (**Clear and detailed instructions for the Coonara’s use, together with ample wood fuel for your stay, are provided. The Coonara’s powerful heat can be redirected with the flick of a switch to the upstairs bedrooms, providing cosy wood fired warmth as an addition or alternative to these bedrooms’ split system heating.)

Adjacent upper deck: a generous (6 + seater) outdoor lounge setting looks out onto the untouched natural beauty of the Australian bush. No neighbours, no road noise, just a flowing indoor/outdoor living zone for a large or small group. Bird feeder will often attract stunning native parrots (seed provided). The perfect place to toast your special occasion or announcement, or to simply relax.

Living zone 3 - Rumpus Room - adjacent spa and BBQ areas - provides additional bedding option (“Couple’s Retreat”). The relaxed and roomy downstairs rumpus/reading/games room has lounge seating for 10+, book and games shelf, and ample space for kids or group activities. Large windows connect to external spa area and the outdoor kitchen/dining (bbq) space. Blinds provide privacy between indoors and outdoors if required.

The Rumpus Room can be converted to an additional sleeping zone (the “Couple’s Retreat”) with:
- one or two stylish yet comfortable convertible double sofa-beds
- divine outdoor shower (a must-try-to-be-believed experience)
- separate toilet/powder room,
all well away from the other guests’ accommodation.

Outdoor Living Features

* 17 acres of wilderness to explore at your leisure (please note, terrain is steep, dense bushland, and therefore not suitable for under 10 year olds to explore without adult supervision).

* The spa area offers instant relaxation, day and night. A large, modern spa features seating for up to 6 people, ample jets, in-built speakers and various light settings. The spa is complemented by a single hammock, and more conventional patio with group seating. Spa towels provided for all guests.

* The outdoor kitchen and entertainment space comes decked out with a large barbecue incorporating 6th large “wok burner”, pizza stone/oven, small fridge, prep area and sink, cooking (BBQ) utensils, and seating and dining equipment for 8+ guests. Stylish yet authentically Australian setting. A pot belly wood-burner provides year-round warmth- and a place to toast marshmallows! Portable UEBoom Bluetooth speaker from the Rumpus Room and outdoor lighting mean you can enjoy this dining space, day or night, in total bush seclusion.

The Accommodation

Master bedroom - luscious king size bed, complete with en-suite bathroom and walk in robe. This charming bedroom has direct separate access to the upstairs deck- meaning you can wake up and step out into totally unspoilt bush tranquility and beauty.

Where you’ll be

Beaconsfield Upper, Victoria, Australia

With Salisbury Hill as your peaceful base, just 15 minutes uphill from the hustle and bustle of charming 'Old Berwick', you can get out and about to make the most of your weekend. Salisbury Hill’s location, easily accessed from Melbourne via the M1 or M3 freeways, is the gateway to both Gippsland and the Dandenong Ranges. Enjoy easy and scenic driving access to local cafes, restaurants and wineries.

For a memorable local activity, consider a visit to:
- Gumbuya Park theme park;
- Puffing Billy in Gembrook; or
- 1001 Steps at Bayview Park;
each only 20-25 minutes down the road! Further afield, the options are even more extensive.

You will possibly be tempted, however, to stay at the Hill all weekend-long; so generous and relaxing are the accommodation and tranquil bush setting.

Whether you’ve been venturing out or just lounging and exploring the property, return in the evening to the warmth of the Coonara wood heater, recline at “the bar” or soak in the spa. Cook up the local produce you’ve collected on your travels into an extraordinary feast-or enjoy simple pizza or damper made in either the outdoor, or conventional upstairs, kitchen.

Local Wineries and Dining Out

Wineries and restaurants
• Enjoy the local Carlei Estate cellar door and wood-fired pizza afternoons from 12-5pm weekend afternoons- within a less than five minute drive.
• For more substantial fare within a very short radius, Jason’s at Bradford Estate Winery, Upper Beaconsfield has an idyllic outlook and comprehensive restaurant menu.
• Ensure to book ahead for:
o a special ‘garden to plate’ experience at the highly rated O.MY restaurant in Beaconsfield; or
o delicious Japanese at Okami in Narre Warren.
• Dine at the traditional Pine Grove Hotel, or the full service Cardinia Park Hotel, for that Australian pub/bistro experience.
• Local vineyards include D’Angelos Estate Vineyard (Officer) or Paternoster Wines (Emerald).
• Order-in from Pizza è Cucina (Berwick). Or check out The Rise Pizzeria Café (Narre Warren North).
• Worth the drive: The Toolshed Bar (Noojee).

Cafes offering great coffee and delicious locally sourced produce at breakfast, brunch or lunch:
• The General Food Store in Emerald
• Spencer’s Store in Gembrook
• Primary in Berwick
• Four Figs or Daydreamers in Beaconsfield
• Worth the drive: Misty Hills Cafe, Neerim South

To source your own fresh produce and cook up a storm, we recommend:
• Akoonah Park Market (Berwick/Beaconsfield, Sundays 8am- 1:30pm)
• Mulgrave Farmers Market (Jacksons/Wellington Rd, Sundays 8am-1pm)

Suggested day trips:
* from Salisbury Hill you can enjoy an easy 25 minute scenic drive to Puffing Billy in Gembrook, and from there, the winding mountain drives and attractions of the famous Dandenong Ranges
* head a different way towards Gippsland; this location opens up easy access to the stunning Wild Dog Winery/Hogget Kitchen (Warragul), Noojee, Neerim, Jindivick and Mount Baw Baw ski resort.

I am a mum, a lawyer, and an Airbnb Superhost! I love the experience of hosting guests (remotely) at Salisbury Hill, our out of town “retreat” for large groups, and at my West Melbourne micro-pad. As yet, I have not travelled a lot using Airbnb- though I was an intrepid backpacker and “WWOOFER” (worldwide network of organic farms) in my younger years throughout Europe and Asia. We are starting to use Airbnb now though, for our travel as a family with young kids, and it’s fantastic to see that the vast majority of hosts on this platform share our open and generous attitudes, and a spirit of sharing and mutual respect. You will find me interested in: yoga (I am a qualified yet still inexperienced yoga teacher), languages (I am fluent in French and competent at Spanish), travel, art and culture. I have family in New Zealand and the United States, and am an honorary member of a beautiful Breton family in France. I hope to travel everywhere, someday... Looking forward to meeting you soon :)
