Lakefront 1920’s Kauri fishing lodge - with your own jetty and boatshed over the lake.

Summer sleep on the balcony with the windows folded back, kayak along the lake front to the local store, relax on the small private beach or shed deck or master the kayaks or rowboat.

Winter, laze on the balcony bed, read or play cards by the open fire or soak in the plumbed outside bath

Sunset cocktails or breakfast on the boat shed deck

BYO linen & need to take rubbish/recycling.

The space
A living area with open fire (wood supplied but bring or chop your own kindling and firestarters) opens out to the balcony room with bifolding windows over the lake.

The 3 bedrooms are small but well appointed with good duvets, bedside lamps, electric blankets etc. There are lots of extra woollen blankets. Note: You need to bring your own sheets and pillow cases and towels. (We aren’t able to supply linen).

The balcony bed is sought after for starlit summer nights - (it could be a bit chilly winter nights). We recommend max 6 guests over winter because of this but it’s up to you.

The original kitchen has a stove, fridge/freezer and microwave (no dishwasher). There is a 2nd fridge/freezer in the boatshed.

Seperate laundry, toilet and shower.

The boatshed and its drawbridge deck is fully available for your use - along with the rowboat, stand up paddle board and 4 kayaks (3 singles and 1 double). Bean bags , sofa and chairs ready for sunset evenings or picnic lunches in the shed or on its deck over the lake. There is a long folding table for long lunches or dinners lakeside.

3-4 guests over the last 15 years have been sensitive with the road noise. Like many Rotoiti houses the shack is next to the highway and there will be early morning rumbles especially on weekday mornings. (Our rates are reflective of this).

Boat launching 2-3 kms away at either Hinehopu or Gisborne point. The shack has its own jetty for overnight mooring. There is parking for cars, boat/trailer but you will need to be able to ‘5 point turn’.

No TV, No WIFI. Unplug and unwind. Kids love it once they get over the shock. (Unfortunately still good reception for cell phones).

Lots of board games and outside fun.

Jump from your jetty into the lake and then run to bubbles in the outdoor bath.

We don’t supply linen.

You need to sort/take all rubbish/recycling. (There is kerbside rubbish pick up you can use on Monday morning but no recycling).

We discourage preschoolers staying. The shack is fenced from the road but definitely not child or pet proofed. There are also concerns with the jetty, boatshed deck and open fire with preschoolers.

Guests are expected to leave the premises tidy, dishes done, rubbish removed and BBQ cleaned.
The $90 cleaning fee covers a more thorough clean of kitchen, bathroom, vacuum, we mop etc.

Where you’ll be

Rotorua , New Zealand

The Shack is lakefront with lots of toys. But if you do want to leave to explore the area it is about a
-30 minute drive to Rotorua. We recommend the mountain bike park.
-60 minutes to Whakatane, Ohope Beach.
-10 minutes to the Waitangi soda pools between Lake Rotoehu and Lake Rotoma.
-15 mins to Hells Gate.
- a nice lake side walk to Hinehopu - & then bushwalking through Hongi’s track to the wishing tree.
- 60 minutes drive to Mount Maunganui/Pukehina surf beaches.

There is a store (30 min stroll or bit longer kayak) with basic groceries and takeaways.
