A unique gem, The Officer’s Mess (named after the wonderful officer’s travelling trunk we picked up when fitting out the accommodation) is idyllically situated at the top of a private garden with stunning views across the Strathearn Valley to the highlands.
Wake up to the sound of birdsong, enjoy a delicious breakfast on your own private deck, relax under the stars in the hot tub... a little slice of paradise is waiting for you!

The space
Simple but with no detail overlooked, the hut offers complete privacy and comfort with the convenience of being a short (15-minute) walk to the beautiful market town of Crieff in rural Perthshire.

The hut has no running water, but drinking (and tea- and coffee- making) water is provided, and the little loo has antiseptic hand wash as well as a small jug and bowl for the intrepid. There's also a dedicated barbecue area beside the hut that you're welcome to use: a barbecue bundle containing charcoal, kindling, firelighters, matches, marshmallows and skewers can be provided at a cost of £10. You just need to bring the food! We'll even clean the barbecue for you so you don't have to worry about it.

Weather and servicing permitting, included in your booking is use of the hot tub, which sits alongside our (unoccupied!) gypsy caravan and has its own private patio area complete with swinging seat, table and chairs, and chimenea. Fluffy towelling robes and flip flops are also provided to facilitate your forays across to the hot tub, and when you're done there's a hot shower in the main house for you to rinse off afterwards.

Your booking includes a continental breakfast of fresh pastries, cereals and fresh fruit. Gluten-free? Check. Dairy-free? Check. Just want to mix it up while you’re away? Check. Whatever your dietary preferences, let us know and we’ll make sure you don’t go hungry.

We also welcome pets at the hut at a charge of £10 per pet, payable on arrival. We'll even make sure there are some treats included just for them!

Guest access
Guests have access to a full bathroom with a shower and copious amounts of hot water in the main house.

Ours is a quiet neighbourhood with lots of walking literally on the doorstep. A gate at the back of the property leads directly onto the Knock, a wooded hill that stands guard over the town of Crieff. The climb to the top is short, steep, and worth the effort as it offers spectacular views across the Strathearn valley.

Hi, I'm Susy, a sprightly, energetic fiction writer living in one of the most beautiful parts of the central belt of Scotland with my husband Iain and our Golden Retriever Willow. Our home is situated on the side of The Knock of Crieff, a wooded hill that stands guard over the town. We moved here with our three little girls thirty years ago and fell in love with the views and the location: the town itself is a ten-minute walk away, and there are a host of beautiful walks within easy walking distance as well, from rolling hills to tree-lined rivers to beautifully-tended parks. People come from far and wide to explore and discover this wonderful part of Scotland. We love gardening and have spent many hours creating a haven for ourselves and our visitors where we can sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun setting behind the hills. We are also passionate about sailing and spend much of our spare time exploring the west coast, where we keep our boat Mishka, a 37-foot Bavaria sailing yacht. Crieff itself is a bustling country town of approximately 7,000 inhabitants. It straddles the Highland Boundary Fault where the lowlands meet the highlands and is often described as the ‘gateway’ to the highlands. It has a colourful history, and was once a major political and judicial centre as well as the main cattle trading centre in Scotland. Drovers and up to 30,000 black cattle would come from far and wide for the huge livestock market. These days the town has more of a reputation for fine food, with an amazing choice of cafés, coffee shops, and restaurants. We hope you’ll come and discover some of them for yourselves, and we look forward to helping give you many happy memories to take home.
