Cozy bedroom with en-suite, private bathroom and snooze-city queen size bed, spacious for one person, and perfect for two. Comfy living room w/Cable TV, kitchen use okay. The house is near downtown Petaluma. Easy access to freeway. Excellent home base for day trips to breweries, wine country, coastal beaches, Sonoma, Napa, and Point Reyes. Enclosed garage for parking, keep this in mind when renting a car. Wifi, self-serve breakfast, pour over coffee.

The space

Upstairs room with connected, private, full bathroom. The bed is a new queen size with a very thick pillow-top mattress, cotton sheets, and down comforter. You will sleep soundly, as it's super comfortable. Couples are welcome although please reserve for 2 guests. Downstairs is a shared space with very comfortable living room, kitchen access. Hosts room is upstairs too, but there are no shared walls.

Free Wifi, HDTV with Netflix and other access. You will have full access to the kitchen just cleanup after yourself. We have a shelf in the fridge with chilled items such as milk and OJ for you, and space for snacks you might bring for yourself. We have an enclosed garage that you'll use for parking. Large vehicles such as SUVs, full sized cars, vans, and utilities trucks won't fit. Parking on the street is limited. Keep this in mind if you are renting a vehicle

We love hosting and want to make sure you enjoy the place and Petaluma. We'll give you an orientation when you arrive, then leave you be. Text me if you need anything at any time during the day. You are our guest and feel responsible of your experience in Petaluma. That said, we are in and out. Weekdays we both work all day, leaving pretty early in the morning. We usually come home for a bit in the early evening, then head out to tennis, gym, or with friends. Weekends vary between doing chores and errands at home to getting out into nature or enjoying downtown Petaluma. Sometimes I make a hot breakfast (not a standard provision), but I usually leave a self serve breakfast with instant oatmeal, rice cakes, coffee and fresh fruit. Willing to accommodate food limitations. If I'm in at night I will be in my own room upstairs, occasionally downstairs to use the kitchen. The living room to the house is yours to relax and enjoy.

Our neighborhood was developed in 2000, so it feels newer. It's quaint, very safe and quiet. It's located right on the Petaluma River, an easy walk to town. I love Petaluma's night life. If you are visiting Petaluma's Lagunitas Brew Co. you might be interested in Taps Petaluma with its collection of 40 microbrews on tap (no bud light or Coors served there). See my guide book for restaurants, walks, and other attractions.

Public transit stop for local buses go directly to town (2 minute ride). I prefer walking. Golden Gate Transit picks up and can take you to the SF, catch the commuter bus if possible (1 hour to city either way). Green taxi is a good taxi service for anywhere around greater Petaluma, and UBER is available Thursday through Sunday with reliability.

I don't mind if guests come home late after a night on the town. Enter quietly and respectful of my neighbors. So go out, have fun, stay out late and enjoy the town.

Guest access

You have access to the living room, and use of the kitchen (shelf in the fridge). Use the garage for parking as street parking is limited. Larger SUVs, full size trucks and vans don't fit in the garage. If you need to do laundry, let us know and we'll show you how to operate the washer and dryer. Feel free to use the TV and accompanying apps (Netflix, Youtube, HBOGo etc) as well.

Interaction with guests

We'll check you in and give you an orientation to the house and Petaluma. We want you to feel at home. Sarah and I work weekdays. We typically have a late dinner together weekdays after tennis and gym activity. We're in and out throughout the weekend. Occasionally our grown kids (young adults) visit and spend the night downstairs. Text or call me if you need anything.

Other things to note

We have breakfast items available on the counter (ex. cereal, oatmeal, english muffins, rice cakes, peanut butter, jam, pour over coffee, and teas). OJ is in the fridge. Typically, I setup pour over Peet's Italian Roast coffee, fresh every morning and leave it on the stove in a hot carafe. If I'm sleeping in, there will be a DIY version. You are welcome to cook your own meals in the kitchen. Feel free to use pots and pans etc. Please cleanup after yourself. No scraps for the dog please.

We live in a friendly cozy quiet neighborhood by the Petaluma River. Parking is limited on the street, so you need to park in our garage, which means larger vehicles do not fit. If you are renting a car we suggest economy and compact cars. Longer midsize cars (ex. Nisson Altima) don't fit well. We give you an opener to use while you are here. You are welcome to use our kitchen, but not our supplies (except what's on the breakfast counter or on the guest shelf in the fridge). We'll leave fruit and juice on that shelf for you to use. The breakfast tray has breakfast and hot drink items, they are for you as well. You are welcome to use pots and pans as long as you cleanup after yourself. Use the fan on the stove, as the smoke detectors are sensitive. We don't allow pets except in special circumstances. The yard is safely enclosed. No smoking inside the house. The river is a great spot to have a smoke. Please conserve water as we are in a drought. Try to keep showers to 5 minutes

This was our first Time with AirB&B and it was a great experience. James with his girlfriend Sarah are great hosts. He is Well prepared to receive his guests. Everything is on the kitchen table when You arrive (business cards, tourist guide, etc.) and He Will fill You in on the things to do in the region that he kwows very Well. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood and yet not far from downtown Petaluma. It is a great place to stay very Well maintained and very clean. Petaluma is a Nice city with lots to do after a day in vineyards. Nice restaurants and lots of live slows in the various bars. It is not far from the vineyards (3 valleys, NAPA, Sonoma & Alexander). I strongly recommand his place if You plan to visit the vineyards and spend a quiet evening in Petaluma. James & Sarah thanks for everything Lise & Yves (Marieville, QC)

Awesome hosts and great place. In summary, 6 stars - ★★★★★★ James's place is a cozy and super comfortable house in the quaint little town of Petaluma. ---- Terrific Hosts----Jamie and Sarah are terrific hosts and one of the nicest people we have come across in our travels around the world. Not only are they a treasure house of knowledge about the local area, they are caring and go the extra mile to ensure that guests feel at home. Jamie and Sarah are super experienced hosts and they have perfected the art of hosting and they take care of every bit of detail and all the logistics for their guests. They gave us our space so we never felt disturbed or our privacy intruded upon. They were however always available to answer any questions or help out. We never felt we left our home during this trip. Every morning, we would wake up to fresh breakfast - freshly brewed coffee, fruits, oatmeal, cereal and breakfast bars! However with the plethora of local restaurants to try, we did not get a chance to try the breakfast, except the coffee which was great. Sarah also baked a batch of absolutely amazing matcha cookies which she graciously offered to us. Hands down, the best matcha cookies we have ever tried. She is a master baker :) ---Birdie--- Jamie and Sarah's St. Bernard-Chihuahua puppy is absolutely adorable and a ball of endless energy. She loves playing with the guests and would wait outside our door in the morning (she is not allowed in the guest room) ----Room---- The room is a modest size room, suitable for 2 persons. It is quiet and has lots of natural light and is furnished. There is an attached private bathroom for the guests. The room (and the house in general) is exceptionally clean. The room has a chair, a small table, a chest of drawers and a closet. There is just enough space for two mid-size suitcases. It would likely feel cramped for more than 2 people or folks traveling with a lot of luggage. ---Check-In and Check-Out: Super easy check in. We arrived quite late (past midnight). The hosts were quite accomodating and had left detailed instructions for us so parking in their garage and finding our room was a breeze. Sarah even gave us the automatic garage opener. Note that the garage only fits a mid size sedan - we had a VW Jetta and did not have any problems. However if you are traveling in a large sedan or SUV, you will have to park on the street outside (see below). ----Great Location----The place is close to US 101 and about a mile from downtown and right on the Adobe Creek. Petaluma is a beautiful small town that has maintained its historic charm in spite of commercialization of surrounding areas. Jamie and Sarah's place is in a quiet neighborhood off Petaluma Blvd in a new development. There is ample parking available on the street. The...

Jamie and Sarah are terrific hosts! The entire experience was an easy pleasure, from check-in to checkout. The room is just the right size and has an attached, private bathroom. Location is great, and garage parking was so convenient. And Birdie, their four-legged friend, is a joy. Thank you for a great stay.

James User ProfileJames is a superhost.

I love traveling because I love learning culture and everything associated with it: people, languages, food, music, art, history and landscapes. I've been to Australia, Europe, and lived in Mexico. Being in education, I get to make the best of my summers. Then you'll find me in the mountains, on the tennis court, and going off on little trips to cities and countries far and wide. I love cooking and beer AND sharing it with others. On the weekends I'm seeking fresh air new outdoor experiences. Most of all I love hosting friends and family.
