We love hosting and want to make sure you enjoy the place and Petaluma. We'll give you an orientation when you arrive, then leave you be. Text me if you need anything at any time during the day. You are our guest and feel responsible of your experience in Petaluma. That said, we are in and out. Weekdays we both work all day, leaving pretty early in the morning. We usually come home for a bit in the early evening, then head out to tennis, gym, or with friends. Weekends vary between doing chores and errands at home to getting out into nature or enjoying downtown Petaluma. Sometimes I make a hot breakfast (not a standard provision), but I usually leave a self serve breakfast with instant oatmeal, rice cakes, coffee and fresh fruit. Willing to accommodate food limitations. If I'm in at night I will be in my own room upstairs, occasionally downstairs to use the kitchen. The living room to the house is yours to relax and enjoy.
Our neighborhood was developed in 2000, so it feels newer. It's quaint, very safe and quiet. It's located right on the Petaluma River, an easy walk to town. I love Petaluma's night life. If you are visiting Petaluma's Lagunitas Brew Co. you might be interested in Taps Petaluma with its collection of 40 microbrews on tap (no bud light or Coors served there). See my guide book for restaurants, walks, and other attractions.
Public transit stop for local buses go directly to town (2 minute ride). I prefer walking. Golden Gate Transit picks up and can take you to the SF, catch the commuter bus if possible (1 hour to city either way). Green taxi is a good taxi service for anywhere around greater Petaluma, and UBER is available Thursday through Sunday with reliability.
I don't mind if guests come home late after a night on the town. Enter quietly and respectful of my neighbors. So go out, have fun, stay out late and enjoy the town.
You have access to the living room, and use of the kitchen (shelf in the fridge). Use the garage for parking as street parking is limited. Larger SUVs, full size trucks and vans don't fit in the garage. If you need to do laundry, let us know and we'll show you how to operate the washer and dryer. Feel free to use the TV and accompanying apps (Netflix, Youtube, HBOGo etc) as well.
Interaction with guests
We'll check you in and give you an orientation to the house and Petaluma. We want you to feel at home. Sarah and I work weekdays. We typically have a late dinner together weekdays after tennis and gym activity. We're in and out throughout the weekend. Occasionally our grown kids (young adults) visit and spend the night downstairs. Text or call me if you need anything.
Other things to note
We have breakfast items available on the counter (ex. cereal, oatmeal, english muffins, rice cakes, peanut butter, jam, pour over coffee, and teas). OJ is in the fridge. Typically, I setup pour over Peet's Italian Roast coffee, fresh every morning and leave it on the stove in a hot carafe. If I'm sleeping in, there will be a DIY version. You are welcome to cook your own meals in the kitchen. Feel free to use pots and pans etc. Please cleanup after yourself. No scraps for the dog please.
We live in a friendly cozy quiet neighborhood by the Petaluma River. Parking is limited on the street, so you need to park in our garage, which means larger vehicles do not fit. If you are renting a car we suggest economy and compact cars. Longer midsize cars (ex. Nisson Altima) don't fit well. We give you an opener to use while you are here. You are welcome to use our kitchen, but not our supplies (except what's on the breakfast counter or on the guest shelf in the fridge). We'll leave fruit and juice on that shelf for you to use. The breakfast tray has breakfast and hot drink items, they are for you as well. You are welcome to use pots and pans as long as you cleanup after yourself. Use the fan on the stove, as the smoke detectors are sensitive. We don't allow pets except in special circumstances. The yard is safely enclosed. No smoking inside the house. The river is a great spot to have a smoke. Please conserve water as we are in a drought. Try to keep showers to 5 minutes
I love traveling because I love learning culture and everything associated with it: people, languages, food, music, art, history and landscapes. I've been to Australia, Europe, and lived in Mexico. Being in education, I get to make the best of my summers. Then you'll find me in the mountains, on the tennis court, and going off on little trips to cities and countries far and wide. I love cooking and beer AND sharing it with others. On the weekends I'm seeking fresh air new outdoor experiences. Most of all I love hosting friends and family.
