Stringer’s Cottage is a private, romantic getaway in a gorgeous bush setting & features a luxurious queen size bed with all linen and towels provided . There is a cosy wood fire, well equipped kitchen overlooking the creek with gas oven, cooktop & fridge, & an indoor toilet & separate shower. Bedside lamps add ambience & there is a selection of books and magazines to browse through. There is also a small selection of games and two comfy armchairs by the fire in the bed-sitting room.

The space
Stringer’s Cottage features a queen size bed with a luxuriously warm doona and plenty of pillows. The bed is made, and sheets and towels are provided as part of the rental price. Bedside tables and reading lamps complete the picture. The bedroom has windows opening on to a bushland setting, and a sealed fireplace which adds to the romantic ambience. Firewood is provided and the wood burning fire will burn efficiently day and night to keep the cottage cosy in Winter.

In Summer, Stringer’s Cottage is a great escape from the heat, in the shady Stringer’s Gully. Leave the screen door closed and enjoy the valley breezes, the smell of eucalyptus and the sound of the creek below.

The large bedroom features two comfy armchairs and a wide selection of books and magazines to while away the time.

The galley kitchen has fridge, stove, oven and plenty of crockery and cutlery, and there is a small supply of complimentary tea, coffee and milk provided for your arrival. The kitchen counter overlooks Stringer’s Creek and there are stools so you can sit and enjoy the view while you dine.
The compact bathroom features a shower with instantaneous gas hot water, and a separate indoor toilet and hand basin.

The cottage is light and bright with its own porch and outdoor dining space under cover. It's cosy in Winter & cool in Summer. A wooden staircase (35 steps) leads up to the road where you are just a short walk to the village. Parking is next to the Coach House wood shed, and is all on the one level for unloading when you first arrive. If no-one is in the Coach House feel free to use the driveway to walk in and out if that is easier.

You have access to the whole cottage and an outdoor garden area and outdoor setting. The property is not fenced.

Minimum 2 nights though this can be negotiated with the owner. A $50 surcharge applies for 1 night only on weekends. For one night midweek stays, long weekends and public holidays a surcharge may apply.

I can be contacted in an emergency, day or night on the mobile phone -sending an email is best.

While staying at Stringer's Cottage you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. The scenic Walhalla Tourist Train runs Wednesdays and weekends, and the gold mine tours run the same days. There are walking ghost tours on the weekends. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about 20 minutes from the rest of the town. Rawson is a 10 minute drive, Erica 20 minutes, Mt St Gwinear 30 minutes away with toboganning and cross-country skiing and Mt Baw Baw an hours drive away for downhill skiing.

Everything is walking distance, and the cottage sits above the tourist railway line. There is off-road parking for your vehicle next door, beside the wood shed at the Coach House. It is ideal to park and unload here if there is no one staying at the Coach House, but as a courtesy to guests use your own staircase down from the road at all other times.
You do not require a 4WD though there are lots of local tracks to explore if you do have one.

This is a small 2 person cottage and not suitable for everybody. Be warned, there is a short staircase down to it from the road.

You have access to the whole cottage and garden area.

You have the property to yourself, but I am just a phone call away if you have any questions or problems.

A minimum 1 night stay may be possible but you need to contact the host as a surcharge will apply.

Where you’ll be

Walhalla, Victoria, Australia

You will enjoy the peace and quiet of Walhalla. Be aware the Coach House is next door and there may be guests staying there.
Tour the Long Tunnel Goldmine or take the tourist train on a short trip through the valley. The pub is a 10 minute walk and a further 10 minutes takes you to the rest of the shops. The gold mine is a further 10 minutes. You can walk to the top of the town along the road in half an hour, depending on your pace, and return via the walking track that gives a view across the valley. This track continues a further 5 kilometres to Thomson River where you can catch the tourist train back if you time it right.

I'm a working mum with a dog and one teenager still at home. I love to travel and have seen a lot of the world, so I know first-hand what people expect from their accommodation - a home away from home. I like to think that people get value for money and enjoy a unique travel experience when they stay, and I’m just a phone call away if they have any questions.
