Villa Diana 2-A charming 2 bedroom 1 bath with sea view. Walk to La Playita Beach in Las Galeras in 3 minutes! Ceiling fans thru-out. Fully equipped kitchen. Shaded terrace with ocean view & breeze. Gated community. On site parking. Free WiFi, BBQ.

The space

This sweet little bungalow is just 3 minutes from La Playita Beach, one of the nicest beaches in Las Galeras. If you have no vehicle, you can walk to town down a private, shaded road, in 10 minutes or so. There you will find supermarkets, restaurants, gift shops, and the main beach. Property managers Kevin and Angelisa are on site 24/7 if you should need anything.

Guest access

Besides the home itself, guests can use the BBQ grill and WiFi signal at the main house.

Interaction with guests

I like to be around to check guests in so I can answer their questions. Other than that, unless you need me, I won't bother you :-)

We were mostly happy with this Airbnb! The main photo shows exactly the view from the front porch, where we spent most of our waking hours on two comfortable loungers; you can see and hear the ocean. Also some flowers and fruit trees in the lawn. Beautiful beach a 5 minute walk. Town's a 10-minute walk. Cindy, who is the rental agent for the owner and an American expat, met us in Las Galeras (we called when we were close, and she met us at the main town beach), and she led us from there to the house -- would be very hard to find the first time without her. The road from town to the house is pretty rugged/rocky, but take it slow and it's really not a problem. Cindy was VERY helpful in general, great to work with and very accommodating. She got us set up with a portable wifi during our stay, and found/sent over a can opener for the kitchen when we requested one. She also showed me around the 3 groceries in town (they're all small and you have to hop between all 3 to find things you need). Kevin and Angelisa were property caretakers, and were great (tho communication can be tricky if your Spanish is poor like ours). Angelisa did a mid-visit house cleaning/sheet change and also did laundry for us (we provided detergent and a modest payment), and Kevin came promptly when we had a toilet problem and got it solved. The owner, Jean-Luc or Juan-Luc, owns the big house next door and was there during our visit (he's only there a few months a year). Early on he stopped by to visit, but didn't come again (which was a good thing). The bedrooms were fine -- comfortable beds, nice high ceilings with fans and enough closet space. There's no AC but you won't miss it, with the fans. There was not mosquito netting over the beds; something they probably should have, though there are not a lot of mosquitos -- there are definitely a few. The kitchen was pretty minimal -- fridge/freezer, 4 burners, sink; basic pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware. No coffeemaker -- something they probably should get -- only a little espresso pot. No microwave, toaster oven, toaster or oven. There was a 5-gallon water cooler, which was very nice. There's no living room per se; the porch functions as one instead. In the main room there's a dining room table with 4 chairs, but it's not the greatest -- table's a bit too high for the chairs, and chairs aren't the most comfortable. But we mostly ate at the table on the porch. Las Galeras is a fairly small town but heavy on restaurants; lots of nice choices. Overall we were very pleased -- wonderful location within view and hearing of the ocean, close walk to beach and town; most of the basics for housekeeping. Great support from Cindy, Kevin and Angelisa. Come for a great getaway!

Cindy, really. No one calls me Cynthia.

My life motto, which seems to work MOST of the time: Que el viento se lleve tus problemas. (Let the wind take your troubles away.)

I'm fairly well-traveled and had never stayed in the same place for more than 2 or 3 days during any of my travels, though I was often gone from my northern California home for months at a time. Then, because I’ve always been drawn to “end of the road” places, I “ended up” in Las Galeras. I moved here a year later to try it out and never went “home”. I’ve explored most of the DR, but I’ve lived on the Samana Peninsula for almost 10 years and now know it quite well.

Though I have a full time job, the ocean, sun and coconut trees make me feel like I'm still on vacation. Sure, I miss some things about life in the good ole USA. Flying, live music (blues, bluegrass, alternative, jazz), backpacking, my fellow volunteers at Sonoma Land Trust, downhill skiing, high speed internet, wine tasting, second hand book stores, Home Depot, The Golden Gate Bridge, Sierra Club "dog hikes", and my granola-crunching, tree-hugging friends, but I love it here.

My Promise: If you come here as my guest, I promise to do whatever I can to make sure you have a great time. I want you to go home thinking that working, saving, planning, organizing and packing (passport, sunscreen, insect repellent, iPhone charger, swim suit, camera, flip flops, iPod, paperback book/s, umbrella).......and then hauling it all to the Dominican Republic and back was worth it. (And that maybe you’d even recommend it to a friend.)

Hope to see you soon.
