The space
Welcome to the Postage Stamp House located in Durrell, Twillingate, Newfoundland.

We hope that our guests will appreciate our attention to detail in keeping in the decorating style of a 19th century home. The moment you step foot in our house, you will be taken back in time to a simpler and quieter way of life that focuses on spaces for friends and family to gather. The house offers the modern-day essentials to bridge the past with the present with class. Each piece in our home was carefully selected to add to the story that is the Postage Stamp House.

The main level features a welcoming eat in kitchen with cathedral ceilings with a walk out to the main front deck. It is fully stocked with all the amenities required to cook your fresh seafood from the local fish market, perhaps even your own fresh catch of the day. Children and grown-ups alike enjoy the unique crow’s nest balcony high up in the kitchen.

As you leave the kitchen, you’ll find yourself in the spacious living-dining room with exposed original wood walls. This space offers plenty of seating to relax between sightseeing. High speed internet and a smart tv with cable, offers access to your favourite streaming services and television programming. The living room is stocked with puzzles, books, boardgames, cards, a stereo and a guitar.

A laundry room with a stacked washer/dryer and a separate walkout to the main front deck completes the space on the main level.

The second level includes a charming full bathroom with exposed wood walls, shower/tub combo. There are 2 cozy bedrooms with new, Canadian made, endy mattresses that offer respite and rest from your busy day.

A separate stair case takes you up to the third floor where you will find the newly renovated master bedroom. A large room with a queen-sized bed, separate seating area and lovely ocean views add to the beauty of the space. It also allows some privacy from the kids to enjoy some couples time alone.

Outside, there is plenty of space and seating on the wraparound deck to view the surroundings while sipping your favourite beverage. The property is large and open with bonus wild blueberry patches to snack on in season. A second deck at the back of the house offers more opportunity to catch the warm heat form the sun. Ocean views of French Head are visible from the front deck during spring and fall months but are obstructed during the summer due to neighbouring trees. These views can be seen throughout the entire year from the second and third levels of the house, especially from the loft.

This saltbox home is one of the few true four front homes that exist in Newfoundland. The abundance of windows allows for plenty of natural light and the ability to bring in the beauty of the outdoors. Fresh ocean breezes can be felt in every room of the house.

We look forward to hosting you.

Guest access
Our guests are privy to short walks to many of the nearby attractions including the Auk Island Restaurant & Winery, Ice Cream shop, various beaches, scenic look out points, berry patches and much more. A short drive will get you to hiking trails, beaches, grocery stores, restaurants, museum, craft shops, pubs etc. There is plenty to see and do in Twillingate from French Head all the way to the Long Point Lighthouse in Crow Head. There is parking on site for your vehicles.

Other things to note
Please note that the ceilings in the bedrooms are lower in height the typical homes as the house maintains its original structure.

Our home was built circa 1860 and maintains many of its original building materials and characteristics. Therefor, please consider that the home is not “modernized” to the building standards of today. The original wood structures change with the climate of the seasons and creaks and cricks will be experienced throughout the home.

The house is best suited for guests who appreciate historical architecture and period vintage/antique decor.

The home features two staircases and 3 levels which may make it harder for those with mobility issues to navigate.

We are a legally licensed tourism establishment with the Province of Newfoundland as well as a legally licensed vacation home with the Town of Twillingate adhering to the codes and regulations stipulated in our license agreements.

For larger groups, the option to rent our sister home next door (The Ocean Pearl) is available. The 2 homes together can accommodate groups from 6-12 people.
