Escape to Nature Without Sacrificing Comfort

Welcome to Meadow Haven Yurt: a serene, off-grid retreat in the foothills of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, designed for those seeking rest, renewal, and reconnection.

Step Inside Your Sanctuary
From the moment you step through the double French doors, you’ll feel at home in this 686 sq. ft. haven. Thoughtfully curated with artistic furnishings, original artwork, cozy rugs, percussion instruments, and inspiring books, this yurt wraps you in warmth and charm. Whether you’re seeking solitude or quality time with a loved one, Meadow Haven provides the perfect space to unwind.

In warmer months, guests can open the dome vent for added airflow. The wood pellet stove is adjustable and detailed instructions are provided for your comfort.

The south-facing yurt stays cozy year-round thanks to a high-efficiency wood pellet fireplace. Even on the coldest winter nights (as low as -35°C), you’ll stay warm and comfortable, with cleaner-burning technology keeping the air fresh.

After a day of exploring, sink into the queen-size canopy bed featuring a Tempur-Pedic mattress, organic cotton sheets, and luxurious bedding that make it almost impossible to leave.

Off-Grid Stays Made Easy
Going off-grid doesn’t mean sacrificing convenience. Meadow Haven Yurt is equipped with:
• A private, ensuite half-bath with an odorless composting toilet.
• A seasonal outdoor solar-heated shower (available June 15 – August 31).
• Solar-powered lighting and fireplace, with backup options for winter months to ensure your comfort.

In warmer months, guests can open the dome vent for added airflow. The wood pellet stove is adjustable and detailed instructions are provided for your comfort.

Explore, Relax, and Reconnect
Surrounded by six acres of wild boreal forest and meadow, Meadow Haven is an adventure waiting to be discovered:
• Wander game trails, follow deer paths, or snowshoe in the winter.
• Walk the stone-lined meditative labyrinth in the south meadow.
• Visit the Wish Tree and leave a wish or prayer tied in its branches.
• Stargaze under pristine skies or cozy up by the smoke-free firepit.
• Spend time with provided board games, art supplies, or self-guided nature immersion experiences (including a special keepsake).

What’s Provided:
• Bottled drinking water & wash water
• Propane for the BBQ
• Firewood, fire starter, kindling, and wood pellets for the indoor fireplace

Outdoor Dining & Fireside Bliss
The covered gazebo is your private dining spot, screened for comfort in warmer months. Enjoy your morning coffee or an evening meal using the propane BBQ. Afterward, gather around the smoke-free firepit in Adirondack chairs, perfect for marshmallows and s’mores.

Please note: Fires only permitted in designated fire ring when no county advisories or bans are in place. Our fire pit is not compliant for use during advisories due to tree proximity.

The outdoor kitchen includes a propane BBQ, basic cookware, and wash stations using spring water from jugs. Dishwashing is done using biodegradable soap and a provided greywater bin.

The Surroundings
Nestled at 1,362m (4,469 ft) on a family-run boutique equine ranch, Meadow Haven Yurt offers breathtaking views and abundant wildlife. Backing onto 360 acres of Crown Land, you may spot deer, elk, moose, foxes, or even the occasional bear. Bird enthusiasts will love the migratory species passing through, from great grey owls and bald eagles to songbirds and cranes.

While the yurt area offers privacy and quiet, guests may hear the gentle rhythms of life on a working ranch—roosters crowing, dogs in the distance, and occasional ranch traffic.

For cyclists, the nearby Grand Valley Road is a popular loop with stunning scenery. In winter, bring your snowshoes or cross-country skis and explore Ghost Lake, just 15 minutes away.

For a deeper connection with nature, arrange a Guided Nature Immersion Experience with your host. Brochures and more information can be found in the How-to-Yurt-Off-Grid guide inside the yurt.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Yurt is located on a 13-acre hobby ranch in the ruggedly beautiful forests and meadows on the edge of the Wildcat Hills, which is at an elevation of 1362 m, close to the same elevation as Banff. The property backs onto 360 acres of Crown Land and is a great place for viewing wildlife and birds. It is on a popular road cycling route, near popular fishing spots at Ghost Lake, Grotto Pond and Winchell Lake. It is an easy drive to both Banff and Kananaskis Parks on scenic roads. Five minutes away is the Perrenoud Wildlife Habitat Area, where you can explore on foot. Birdwatch! We are on the migratory route for a great many species, including bald and golden eagles, great grey owls, swans, cranes, and blue herons... Experience the joys of each season.

You are just a 15-minute drive from the Yurt to the pretty little town of Cochrane. You'll find anything you need: groceries, wine & beer stores, cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, Saturday farmers' markets, galleries, a movie theatre, the reportedly haunted Rockyview Hotel, concerts, and rodeos. Check out MacKay's Ice Cream, a local favourite on Main Street. Or go a little further and explore the delights of Canmore or Banff.

Are you looking for a day trip? Visit Bankhead in Banff National Park, a winding 1-1.5 hour drive to an early 1900's mining ghost town near Cascade Mountain. There is an informative self-guided interpretive walk.

Or walk, hike or snowshoe the gentle game trails five minutes down the road at the nearby Perrenoud Wildlife Habitat Area. Then, enjoy Ghost Lake or Winchell Lake, a scenic 15-20 minute drive away.
