This house is situated in the heart of the historic market town of Penrith. It is part of a converted Victorian school with many original features and allocated private parking in the old school playground. The location is perfectly situated to take advantage of the amenities in Penrith, close to train and bus stations, restaurants and takeaways, and an award winning cycle shop whilst being just a short drive to Ullswater - arguably the Cumbria's most beautiful lake ( maybe we are biased!).

The space
The house is quite literally a little slice of history. A three story town house carved from the middle of the old Penrith Girls School. The living / dining room has the original wood floor of the school hall, with the original door, stone fireplace and built in cupboard. This contrasts with the spiral staircase connecting the three floors. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washer dryer along with the essential components. The cosy living area can seat five comfortably, with room for a few little ones, and has a smart TV and a wood burning stove. The three bedrooms have quite a flexible arrangement with twin singles which could be linked to form a super kingsize in one, a twin room and a single room with an extra full size guest bed. The nature of the building means that there are quirky alcoves, sloped ceilings and vellux windows in all the bedrooms. It is definitely not your average three bedroom house! If you're really tall the sloping grooves may not appeal. The spiral staircase, whilst giving that open feeling, means that the house may not be suitable for very young children or the less able. The top bedroom is accessed directly from the staircase without a door so it's not particularly private - if you let me know the ages and wishes of your party I will do my best to adjust the sleeping arrangements to suit. Likewise, if you are a group of cyclists I can re-arrange the living/dining area to include an indoor bike rack. There are two shower rooms accessible to all bedrooms - one is pretty small, but perfectly formed! Unusually for this most desirable part of Penrith, the house has it's own parking space just outside the front door in the old school playground.

Where you’ll be

Cumbria, England, United Kingdom

The New Streets area of Penrith is the most sought after place in the town to be. Steeped in history, Drover's Lane gives a clue in it's name to the agricultural heritage. But it's not the tourist trap that some Lake District towns have become, despite being only a few miles from Ullswater. Penrith boasts a cinema, theatre, lots of restaurants, interesting independent shops, art galleries and a choice of supermarkets. If you're cyclists there is the fantastic Arragons Cycle shop and repair centre just a few minutes away.

During your stay

I live just a couple of hundred yards away from the house so will be happy to help you have the best experience possible if I can. However, I work in the best Tearoom in the Lake District down in Pooley Bridge, Ullswater, so I can't be on hand at all times.
