We offer you a spacious family room with comfortable double and single beds just 1 mile from the stunning Elan Valley with its Victorian dams and shimmering lakes. A help yourself breakfast of muesli, cereals, juices, tea/coffee fruit and toast (with home made bread and preserves) will set you up for your adventures. Our home is in a quiet private road with parking and views across mountainside. It is next to Elan Valley Hotel and less than 3 miles from the friendly market town of Rhayader.

The space

Our family sized house has been a bit quiet lately since the children left home, so this is an opportunity for us to share it and the beautiful area we live in. We are ex-hoteliers so have experience in looking after guests and providing a warm welcome with facilities to match.
This large room can sleep 3 in a double and single bed or other options available - as a double, twin or single (pricing will vary). We also offer a double room next to this one. There are two bathrooms - one with a bath and one with a shower. One is solely for guests use.
We are situated on the doorstep of the Elan Valley in the Cambrian Mountains - offering a variety of stunning landscapes - Victorian dams and shimmering lakes, mountain tops and forests. Outdoor activities include walking, cycling (off road and local lanes and trails - just off Route 8, the Elan Valley and Trans Cambrian trails), fishing, bird watching, fungi forays, pony trekking, etc.
Bikes can be hired in Rhayader or from the Elan valley visitor centre and many activities are organised from there - birdwatching safaris, mountain walks, helicopter rides etc. We have a another room also available posted under Large Double in the Spectacular Elan Valley.

Guest access

We provide a help yourself breakfast of muesli, cereals, juices, tea/coffee fruit and toast (with home made bread and preserves).
The rooms have hot drink making facilities and tea and home made cakes are available on arrival.
A dining area and the garden are available to you at all times.
Wi Fi access available although the signal speed here is slow – picking up e-mails is fine but i-player maybe clunky. USB charging ports in your room.
We are next to the Elan Valley Hotel with a bar and restaurant and 1 mile from the Elan Valley visitors centre with a daytime cafe and information.
The friendly market town of Rhayader is 2 and a half miles away with many pubs, cafes and shops, accessible along the Elan Valley Trail by foot or bike as well as car.

Interaction with guests

We are naturally friendly people and will be interested in the people that come to stay and sharing our house and the area we live in, although we also respect guests privacy. You are welcome to ask us questions at any time and for local information. We can lend you maps and give advice on suggested walks or bike rides (Pippa is a keen mountain biker and Ric is a bit of a twitcher).
We will serve breakfast but you may have the house to yourself for some of the day and evenings – but you will probably be busy exploring!

We really enjoyed our stay in the beautiful Elan Valley. We appreciated Ric's advice including the encouragement to see Sam Lee at the local art centre. Breakfast was great, accommodation was very comfortable. Ric also suggested a wonderful hike in the hills on a beautiful sunny October day. Highly recommended.

Pippa and Ric are very hospitable hosts. We loved being spoiled with delicious homemade cake soon after we arrived! Pippa and Ric's home is situated in very close proximity to what must be a hiker/biker paradise. The 360 degree, stunning panoramic views from the summit of a local hill made me wish we had much more time to explore.

We are quite new at AirBnB but this booking is going to be tough to top up! The house is marvelous and the room is beautiful, clean and tidy. The location is just what we were looking for, just a step away from Elan Valley Reservoirs, and the price is reasonable. What makes this booking outstanding, however, is how hospitable Ric and Pippa are. This was not just some room, we got to meet two wonderful people and were able to take a peek at their lives. A true Airbnb experience!

My son and I had an absolutely wonderful weekend at Ric and Pippa's place. We were staying for a cycling weekend. We had a perfect breakfast and they were very accommodating of our bikes. Ric and Pippa are lovely friendly hosts. We're already planning a return trip.

Pippa was a wonderful host. She is very welcoming and friendly, and interesting to chat to. The room is big, clean and the bed is very comfortable. The views from the window are gorgeous. Pippa put on a delicious breakfast which featured home grown fruit and homemade bread. I would highly recommend a stay at Pippa's.

We met working in community theatre and still maintain links to theatre and the arts. We came to mid Wales to run the Elan Valley Hotel which we sold 10 years ago. Ric now works as a teaching assistant for children with additional needs and Pippa is the Manager of Rhayader Community Support - local charity supporting the community. Our son Simon lives in Bristol, (when he's not travelling) and daughter Georgia has just moved to London.
