The space
Set on a spectacular hilltop with views across the Orchardleigh estate and across the Vallis Vale valley, this is the perfect spot to get away from it all. Wide sweeping panoramas and long walks along the river Frome, surrounding fields or woodlands, mean you can spend days here absorbing the natural beauty around you and enjoying outdoor adventures. The creative and vibrant town of Frome, with its amenities is walkable (12 mins) .

This barn has 800sqft of space, so is really roomy compared to most Frome cottages. All on one floor, with bedrooms off the living room, with the master bedroom benefiting from an ensuite. 2nd bedroom has a shower room and loo also off the living room.

The kitchen/diner is a generous room for lounging over a coffee, reading a book and cooking up a storm with our resident cookbook by Deliciously Ella. All new appliances in the kitchen. We provide a breakfast hamper at checkin.

The Master Bedroom has a king-size (150cm wide) bed with a fluffy mattress topper and down pillows, perfect for snuggling up in this cosy country getaway.

The second bedroom has 2 x 90cm single beds with feather duvets and pillows, ideal for sharers or children. They can also be pushed together as a super king (180cm wide) bed, should you prefer this.

The cottage is well equipped for entertainment with a Marshall Acton II Speaker, an Amazon Firestick for hunkering down with Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+, lots of board games, and a whisky station.

There is a garden with a table and chairs for eating outside and enjoying the views. We have just installed new gas BBQ.

Here is a list of things we like to do in the surrounding area that might give you some inspiration for your trip...

> Longleat day trip, take the kids and adults to the zoo!
>The Newt Gardens, for £20 annual membership pp you can't go wrong, stunning grounds and food/drinks...Treat yourself!

Somerset, England, United Kingdom

Highlighted as one of the Times “Best Places to Live in Britain”, Frome is also a welcoming, charming and vibrant place to visit, with a wealth of history, culture and natural beauty.

Packed to the rafters with historic buildings, beautiful independent shops and creative people, Frome is a an inspiring and unique town.

Frome is a town with a charming historic centre and has a wealth of architectural interest alongside a thriving contemporary and performing arts scene. Frome is also the original Somerset Market Town, a hugely important destination hosting a thriving market since the time the ink was still wet on The Domesday Book. This tradition continues today with regular markets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Then on the first Sunday of each month from March to December, ‘The Frome Independent Market’ comes to town. The Frome Independent is a mini festival that takes over the whole town attracting thousands of visitors. It brings together the best local food and drink, artists and designers, produce, plants, flowers, retro, vintage, collectables, home wares and street entertainment.

Aside from the markets, Frome is full of specialist shops, arts and crafts, antiques and collectibles sitting alongside vintage and unique clothing shops and businesses, the majority of which are independent. Frome is also home to a number of arts venues and galleries in historic buildings, including The Black Swan, Rook Lane Arts, and the Silk Mill.

Frome has a growing reputation as a hub for creative industries. Many professional craftspeople work from individual workshops with specialities ranging from designer jewellery and textiles to musical instrument makers and artist blacksmiths. It is also home to modern innovative and creative businesses, like 3D printing and new media agencies.

Now known for its community spirit, arts and entertainment, Frome has a number of choirs, a symphony orchestra, a Youth Band, two theatres – the Memorial and Merlin, Westway Cinema and the noted Cheese and Grain, a fantastic live music venue often boasting performances and shows from many a headline act, especially during the Frome Festival and on the lay over from Glastonbury.

Frome hosts a well-established calendar of events including the 10-day Frome Festival, the Frome and Agricultural Cheese Show, the Carnival and the Frome Christmas Extravaganza, which in 2013 featured the Frome Grand Prix, with local boy Jenson Button returning home to burn up the streets of Frome in his F1 car. To view a specially commissioned film of this event you can download it here or watch it here.

The local area boasts endless opportunities for walking in nature, from Cley Hill to Orchardleigh, the Frome river and East Woodlands. We can give suggestions for outdoor adventures to suit your tastes. Wildlife lovers will find plentiful horses, sheep, cows, colourful dragonflies, and kites and buzzards soaring in the sky above the valley.

Babington House, the Newt, the Hauser and Wirth Gallery and Chapel Restaurant in Bruton, and Stourhead offer fantastic cultural experiences in the wider area.
