Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Shoal Bay sits on a remote island, completely off grid. Here we generate our own electrical power through a system of solars panels and micro-hydro. Just one of three boutique styled cottages at Shoal Bay, The RAVEN COTTAGE sits on the hillside overlooking the water. There are 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen and a cozy woodstove. Kitchen with undercounter fridge and 4 burner gas stove/oven. A shower in the bathroom. Covered deck with a bbq all overlooking the ocean and the coastal mountains

The space
The old townsite of Shoal Bay was once the most populated town on the British Columbia coast. Vibrant gold mines, abundant timber, and plentiful salmon supported a community of several thousand. The current population is now 2. We have made the old townsite our home and life-project for over twenty years now and we continue to improve the entirely off-grid infrastructure and thusly our ability to stay here. We have designed and built a fresh water delivery system now certified by the Provincial Health Authority, as well as a fossil fuel free electrical system combining solar panels with a micro-hydro generator.
Shoal Bay is accesible by boat or floatplane only. There are scheduled water taxis that run from Campbell River and nearby locations. There is also scheduled floatplane service from Campbell River.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds, garden, outdoor shower, laundry, beach fire pit, central deck with fire bowl, the trails and the use of 2 kayaks. Professional guided trophy salmon fishing, photography guides, bear or whale watching can also be arranged. Boat moorage for up to 25’ is included with booking. During the summer season dogs must be on a leash in our village. Off-season, dogs are welcome to be off leash

Other things to note
We ask all guests to please pack out all garbage and recyclables when leaving. We do have a compost bin on site that guests can add to. On summer Saturday nights, a wood-fired oven experience. During off-season, foodies and cooks ( for parties of 8 or more) can ask to use the wood-fired oven themselves. Please get in touch with us before your visit if you would like to use the outdoor oven. For guests that are struggling finding transport to and from Shoal Bay, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to assist and get you here as easily as is possible. We promise it is worth the effort! Check in time is 4:00pm but if you do arrive early we will do our best to get you in your cottage as soon as is possible.
