Southern Secret is surrounded by native bush and a only a couple minutes walk to the river and beach. Our serviced units are set in true NZ 1960s vintage, featuring polished wooden floors, self-contained bathroom and kitchen. The unit has a balcony overlooking the native bush. Perfect for spotting the native bird life and taking in the peaceful surrounds. Many of the Catlins attractions are a short drive from Papatowai.

Southern Secret is situated in Papatowai, a picturesque seaside village only three minutes walk to the beach and river. Many of the Catlin's famous attractions are within 20 minutes drive. Walks to stunning waterfalls, beautiful beaches, caves, blowholes and famous rock formations are all close by. It is an ideal base for exploring the Cathedral Caves, Kaka Point, Nugget Point, Porpoise Bay and the Petrified Forest of Curio Bay. You can see dolphins, seals, sea lions, penguins. The famous Lost Gypsy Gallery is just across the road and good surf beaches just over the hill. The country store is just a couple of minutes walk away too.
