Visit Wales 4 Star, self-catering, 2 bedroomed, detached country bungalow with a private 'jacuzzi and sauna' rear garden and a children's play area. It is set in just under 2 acres of grounds which it shares with our other holiday let Hawthorn Lodge. Situated in the rural village of Coed y Paen. Only 5-minute walk to the Carpenters Arms country pub and restaurant and 10 minutes’ downhill walk to Llandegfedd Lake’s Visitor and Water Sports Centre which also has a lakeside café and walking trails.

The space
Blackthorn Lodge is a professionally cleaned and laundered 2 bedroomed, Visit Wales 4 Star self-catering, detached country bungalow. It is set in just under 2 acres of grounds - which it shares with its sister bungalow Hawthorn Lodge. Each lodge has its own lockable private garden area with its own jacuzzi, red cedar barrel sauna, sun beds and garden furniture. It also has a children's' play area with a climbing tower, rock wall, swings, slide etc., a football goal post and a range of other outdoor toys.

Blackthorn Lodge is situated in the rural village of Coed Y Paen which is a 'Dark Sky' designated area so is perfect for stargazing. It is only a 5-minute walk to the Carpenters Arms country pub and restaurant and is 2 minutes’ drive or 10 minutes’ downhill walk to Llandegfedd Lake’s Visitor and Water sports Centre which offers a lake side café, 4 walking trails, kayaking, paddle boarding, peddle boarding, wild water swimming (on certain days), wind surfing, coarse and fly fishing, axe throwing, crazy golf, archery, fun days and so much more. It is also less than 6 minutes’ drive to Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club which also has its own restaurant and bar which is open to the public.

We offer year-round availability (no new arrivals on Christmas Day) in each of our lodges which are side-by-side and sleep up to 4 guests - including children and babies - to holiday makers and both of our detached lodges are available to book for stays from 3 nights to up to 28 nights.

For groups of more than 4 and up to 8 guests we recommend that guests book both Blackthorn and Hawthorn Lodge (subject to availability). Our prices remain the same all year round however we have a minimum 3-night stay low season and a 4-night stay during peak season - 7-night stays are at our discounted weekly rate.

We do not allow pets, events or large family gatherings (in the property or in the grounds) and expect our guests to behave responsibly especially with regards to noise, music etc. Our properties are non-smoking and (as is the same for every holiday let in the UK) we expect all of our guests to comply with the UK Government's Fire Safety regulations which prevents the use of candles, guests' own electrical equipment and deep fat frying in the building etc. As alternatives we provide hairdryers, hair straighteners and single basket air fryers. No one under the age of 18 or vulnerable adults should be left in charge of the building at any time or for any reason. Blackthorn Lodge is within 10 minutes’ drive to Cwmbran Shopping's retail and hospitality area with its free parking and e-charging points however local supermarkets including Iceland, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons etc. and some other food delivery services such as Dominos, Just Eat etc. also offer deliveries in our area (please check with your preferred company prior to booking).

Private lockable garden area with outdoor bike storage: –
Red Cedar Barrel Sauna, Jacuzzi Spa hot tub (solely for use by Blackthorn Lodge guests - no fake tan, sequins or balloons allowed), garden table, chairs, 2 sun loungers and festoon lights. The private lockable garden area can also be used for outdoor bicycle or sporting equipment storage but - as we do not have an undercover designated charging area that is a safe distance from the property - cannot be used for the charging or storage of e-bikes, scooters or any other type of e-vehicle.

Shared children's play area - range of equipment including a climbing frame with a slide, rock wall and a double swing set, a spring rocker and a trampoline. There is also a large grassed area for ball games.

Spacious lounge - comfortable corner sofa with storage pouffe (with throws inside), nest of tables, a table and 4 chairs, board games, 43" Smart Ultra HD tv with Freeview, catch-up tv channels, Apps and a Blu-ray DVD player. A beautiful glass fronted multi-fuel stove (see photo) - runs the radiators in the kitchen, both bedrooms, bathroom and hallway (please note that the fire must be lit for the radiators to work). We supply the logs, anthracite, kindling, matches and newspapers free of charge.

Main bedroom - King Size comfortable bed, professionally laundered white cotton bed linen, 2 chest of drawers with bedside lamps, pine wardrobe, and a 40" Freeview Smart tv with catch up tv, access to apps including Netflix, Disney+ etc.. 4 white cotton professionally laundered bath towels are stored on the shelf in the pine wardrobe. The bedroom window overlooks the private garden area. Blackout curtains help ensure a good nights sleep.

Twin bedroom - two full-sized single divan beds, professionally laundered white cotton bed linen, 2 bedside lamps and mirror wardrobes. 4 white cotton professionally laundered towels, are stored on the shelf in the mirror wardrobe. Window overlooks the private garden area. Blackout curtains and comfortable mattresses to ensure a good nights sleep.

Modern fitted gallery kitchen - air fryer, fridge freezer, washing machine, electric ceramic hob, electric oven, toaster, kettle and a microwave oven – also cutlery, crockery and pots and pans. (Please note you will be asked to recycle your food and other waste and follow the countryside code during your stay). We supply tea towels, dishcloths, an oven cloth/glove, washing up liquid, liquid soap and 'Spray Wipe and Go' to clean the surfaces after use.

The Wet room / bathroom is fully tiled with electric shower, shower curtain, toilet, sink, makeup/shaving mirror and electric shaver point. Also, a mirror bathroom cabinet with spare toilet rolls, first aid kit etc. We also provide liquid soap handwash, green Egyptian towels, bath mat and pedestal mat.

Front exterior - designated off-road parking area, sole use of front terrace/patio area with garden table and chairs, flowers and the shared large grassed area with footballs and goal posts for recreational purposes and a brick-built BBQ are available for guests' use - subject to conditions. Also, a small fruit orchard (home to a small flock of free-range bantam chicken, geese and occasionally wild mallard ducks)

The accommodation is suitable for singletons, couples, friends and families and is disability friendly. It has wheelchair accessible doors, electric sockets and light switches. Electricity, wood for the wood burner, towels and bed linen are all included in the price. Smoking, vaping and pets are not allowed inside the bungalow or in the grounds.

Please note that we now have WIFI which can only be accessed wirelessly - it does not have Ethernet ports. It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 116mbps which is fast enough for most streaming services and software such as Teams etc.

Both Blackthorn and Hawthorn Lodge have their own designated off road private parking right outside the front door. The patio area outside the bungalow and the small private padlocked garden area with the sauna and jacuzzi in are solely for Blackthorn Lodge guests' use - Hawthorn Lodge Guests have access to their own. The grounds which include a play and football area are shared with guests staying at our other holiday let Hawthorn Lodge.

Other things to note
We ask that when going out, guests check that all windows in the bungalow are closed, that all doors are locked and to keep the main gate closed after arrival and when going out. This will prevent any roaming sheep or cows from entering the grounds.

The private garden area with the jacuzzi, sauna and outdoor bicycle storage area must be kept locked at all times when not in use. This is to prevent any unauthorised use and the risk of accidental drownings. The jacuzzi and sauna are for guest use only.

Our fire risk assessment and insurance restrictions prevent the storage and charging of any e-vehicles including e-bikes, e-scooters (including outdoor e-mobility scooters) inside the property or within the grounds as we do not have a 'well ventilated specifically designated area where they can be stored or charged'.

We do not allow pets in the buildings nor in the grounds - we have our own feral cats, chickens, geese and occasionally wild mallard ducks. If you would like to feed the chicken please let us know and we will provide you with corn free of charge.

The lead guest will be asked to read the conditions of use for the Jacuzzi, Sauna and Children's Play area prior to using them and confirm that they have done so.

No pets, large family gatherings, no parties, no events or loud music allowed.
