Guest access

I am very pleased to offer the hospitality in my small charming house to all the tourists arriving in our wonderful Picardie and wishing to discover her various facets while spending a pleasant time.
I will also be pleased to be your guide, when I can be available, to show you my Picardie.
I will also try to adapt myself to your specific demands and help you to organize your stay in advance.
Just ask.
We have the reputation in Picardie to be cold and introvert people. This is not false. Certainly due to the numerous wars and invaders we had to suffer from, and to the fact that, still nowadays, people tend to cross the region, but don’t stay. If you take time to stay longer, you will discover that we have so many treasures (architecture, people, nature…) and that we can be warm inside, generous and friendly…

Interaction with guests

More specifically concerning people coming for the commemorations and the remembrance sites, we shall try to accompany you during the future ceremonies, even if, in this matter, our character may be much more to hide the pain and try to forget. Sorry for that… We’ll try to be present and attentive to your needs.
Let’s hope these shared moments can contribute to keep the memory alive, help to build a more peaceful world for us and for the coming generations, and also help to continue maintaining a good relation over time…
In any case, as far as I am concerned, be sure : “I will try my best for my guests”.
I look forward to meeting you…

Lawrence was a warm and very thoughtful hostess. The Zen room is very comfortable, quiet and homely. Lawrence provided a lovely breakfast each day with fresh eggs, coffee, fruit, cheese, don't go hungry. I based myself at Lawrence's and visited many sites along the Western Front, an overwhelming experience in itself and made all the more memorable by staying at the Zen room in Hamelet. It is very central to visit historically important sites. Lawrence has a thoroughly knowledge of the area and can point you in the right direction for excellent restaurants and local points of interest. I highly recommend staying here if your after a very 'real' and very enjoyable stay in Northern France.

If you are looking for a hotel with all mod cons then this is not it and why are you searching airbnb, which in our view has the huge advantage of offering accommodation which is typical of the area which you intend to visit. This particular accommodation is very French, with all the idiosyncrasies, and guests can immerse themselves fully in the lifestyle of the region. Hamelet is a small rural village in easy reach of Amiens, Albert, Corbie, and all the WWI sites of the Somme area. The jewel in the crown is the owner of the property Laurence. Laurence has her guests always in her thoughts and works tirelessly to ensure you enjoy your stay. We have never come across anyone who has done so much for our welfare during the seven nights we were her guests. Not only has she recommended restaurants within a few miles of Hamelet but she has cooked magnificent meals on three occasions for us, all based on regional dishes; provided home made jams, local cheeses, eggs from her bantams, for breakfasts; home made treats e.g. madeleines to take with us on our outings. Thank you Laurence for making us feel like one big happy family.

Laurence was a gracious and attentive host who, made us us feel most welcome. Excellent email and text communication pre-arrival. The bedroom,on a split level, was both clean and comfortable with a large house bathroom and a small toilet available on the ground floor. Laurence, provided us with a lovely breakfast on the morning of departure. Her home laid hen eggs were a treat as were the varied assortment of home-made jams, bread and cake. Unfortunately, we didn't have more time to explore the immediate area, as our visit was very brief, in order to attend the Somme centenary commemoration at Thiepval. A lot of nice personal touches to make you feel welcome.

We had a great experience in the Zen room. Laurence and her family were extremely friendly and welcoming. We felt like a part of the family! Laurence provided a little welcome basket with local macaroons and homemade apple jelly and a huge bottle of water. We traveled with our 2 month old son and Laurence clearly loved babies. She didn't even blink an eye when he cried. We had a host table with the family the night we arrived and the food was all great. I love to cook and Laurence was happy to chat with me about her recipes and the foods we weren't familiar with. Laurence studied English and spoke fluently which was a huge help for us. We had great conversations over wine after dinner was over! Breakfast was equally good, with breads and croissants and homemade jams. We will definitely stay again when we are in the area, and even encouraged Laurence to look us up if she ever visits Amsterdam!

Laurence made us feel very welcome and the room was very clean and comfortable. Hamelet is a very small village close to Corbie and VillersBrettoneux and perfect for visiting some of the WW1 sites. Lawrence gave us useful advice and literature about these battlefields. She is a wonderful cook and prepared dinner for us that was delicious and regional. We enjoyed our time in Hamelet with Lawrence
