Glen Tanar is set in Scotland's spectacular Cairngorms National Park in Royal Deeside and provides the perfect base for exploring the outdoors. If you are planning a wedding the spectacular Victorian Ballroom is an exclusive wedding venue where your dream wedding can become reality.
East Millfield is on the Glen road just along the road from its sister cottage, West Millfield A listed building, East Millfield is an elegant, traditional cottage which has been completely and stylishly rebuilt from two cottages to create a large luxury holiday cottage. Equipped accordingly, with two fridges, two dishwashers, and an en suite for every bedroom, the cottage is tastefully decorated in warm, neutral tones. Furnishings are in hand-picked, designer fabrics. Features such as the banisters are hewn from local oak. Bespoke local artwork and nature-themed fixtures and fabrics adorn the cottage, from the bedrooms, to the antler-chandelier in the hallway, made especially for the space.

The space
Glen Tanar Estate came into the Coats family in 1905, when George Coats, great grandson of the founder of the fine thread manufacturer, J&P Coats, bought the land from the Manchester MP and merchant banker, Sir William Cunliffe Brooks. The current owners, Michael and Claire Bruce, have lived in the Glen since 1986 and raised their three children there. They are the fourth generation of the Coats family to own and care for the Estate.
Since its very beginnings, Glen Tanar has been inviting people to enjoy the great outdoors amidst 25,000 acres of beautiful Highland scenery. Michael and Claire continue this tradition today, welcoming visitors to their luxury holiday cottages, prestigious event venues and award-winning outdoor activities, in a special place that includes a National Nature Reserve and part of the spectacular Cairngorms National Park.
The estate works in close partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission Scotland and the Cairngorms National Park. Michael and Claire place great emphasis on conservation and responsible land management on this internationally important site. Theirs is a culture of gradually investing, of constantly improving, of adapting sensitively to changing times. In this way, they aim to balance the needs of a growing business with those of a rural community and unique natural environment.

Where you’ll be

Aboyne, United Kingdom

Deeside is where Aberdeenshire meets the Cairngorms National Park, and where the snow-fed River Dee starts its journey from the mountains to the sea. You can roam for miles across grand highland estates – beneath wind-washed cathedral pines, by still, dark lochs, along crystal-clear rivers where salmon come to spawn.
Traditions – and roots – run deep here. Communities are strong. Doric – the language, poetry and especially the music – is alive. Along the valley, every village has its Highland Games.
The clans that gathered here centuries ago still gather today. Granite walls, legendary castles
and mysterious standing stones tell a long history of settlement. This is a landscape shaped and stewarded by hundreds of generations of hunters, farmers, foresters.
This heritage, this depth, these lovely landscapes and these long traditions – all combine to create
a place that feels like an embrace.
Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are home to an abundance of wildlife. Take a look at this fascinating video that shows you just some of the wildlife species you might come across when visiting.
