The space
Carter Glacier Cabin

Our cabin was named after the Carter Glaciers and are about 50 acres in size.

If you have ever wanted to experience what Glacier National Park has to offer, Carter is the place for you to call home while you are here.

Our little cabin is ideally located about nine miles from the west entrance making it easy for you to use as your base for exploring the wonders of Glacier National Park.

Carter is literally 15 minutes from from breathtaking Lake McDonald, where you you can fill your day with recreational boating (rentals available), swimming, or photographing the range of mountain peaks that frame the lake.

From there you are a few minutes walk from the town of Apgar, where you can grab a morning coffee, an ice cream, enjoy the offerings of the café or shop in the gift shops.

Once you arrive in the park you are literally connected to miles of paved trails leading into the town of West Glacier (about 3 miles away), so you’ll have ample opportunities for easy hiking and mountain biking too.

If relaxing at the cabin is your idea of getaway, you can just hang out on the porch, enjoy the outdoor fire pit, BBQ up some lunch, take a stroll and pick huckleberries, or curl up out the back porch and read a book, or just rest, relax and enjoy the beauty of our little orchard and mountain air.

Plan to drive the 52-mile Going to the Sun Road for a host of photographic and hiking options. We’re happy to recommend guides for horseback riding, white water rafting, helicopter tours, fly-fishing and other recreational activities too.

And, if you’re not interested in driving, once you are at Lake McDonald you’re only a short walk from the Apgar transportation center where you can enjoy a ride on the historic Glacier Red Cars or take the free shuttle bus throughout the Park. A week simply won’t be enough time to enjoy all that Carter Glacier Cabin and Glacier National Park has to offer!

Where you’ll be

Martin City, Montana, United States

The neighborhood is really Martin City, which is by no means more then a little town of yesteryear.

This area boomed when the Hungry Horse Dam project started and during the heyday, Martin City was a boomtown, home to rowdy residents, dam workers and some of the heartiest residents in the region.

Just a few minutes' drive from Glacier National Park and the nearby Flathead National Forest, the region is ideal for remote, quiet camping with numerous trails into nearby wilderness areas.

Time it right and experience one of Martin City's best traditions, the weekend-long Cabin Fever Days and Barstool Ski Races—a family friendly and roaring-good-time community event held annually in February.

The area offers plenty of camping in the Flathead National Forest at sites such as Spotted Bear Campground on the edge of the beautiful Bob Marshall Wilderness. There is access to a trail which leads to the Great Bear Wilderness.
