Where you’ll be

Carnlough, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

Carnlough is a tranquil village situated on the stunning Antrim Coast Road. Lisowen House is located in the heart of the village and beside the beach. It is a perfect retreat for couples, families or indeed individuals who enjoy beautiful scenery in peaceful surroundings. Lisowen House is a super location from which to explore the amazing coastline which is home to the Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Rathlin Island and the Dark Hedges.
However, you may not wish to travel and would prefer to stay closer to home, in which case, Lisowen House is a super starting point for long walks - perhaps taking the Ulster Way walking routes or simply walking along the coast and enjoying the spectacular scenery.
The village itself is famous as the second of the nine Glens of Antrim and as a fishing village. The harbour is postcard pretty - a great place to sit and relax and to watch the boats sail in and out of or equally interesting to simply to watch the fishermen off- load their catch or stack their lobster nets ready for the next day. Indeed the harbour is a location made famous by the Game of Thrones series where the village was transformed into the free city of Braavos. If you are a fan you will know that in series three Arya can be seen pulling herself out of the water and up the stone steps of the harbour.
Carnlough is an ideal location for watersports, fresh water and sea angling, pleasure boat trips or simply for beach barbeques and sandcastle building. Carnlough is equally ideal for country rambles or hill walking perhaps to visit the Cranny Falls or lakes - or just for enjoying the pleasures of the seasonal changes.
On your doorstep are convenience stores for all essential needs, a petrol station for refuelling, hairdressers, beauticians, a pharmacy and a gift shop.
Carnlough village enjoys a hotel and a selection of take-aways and restaurants which provide delicious food. The local pubs offer traditional and modern music - but above all offer a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
For suggested itineraries of visits from 3-7 days (and more) go to the ‘Getting Around’ section.

Hello, I'm Ciara! I was born in Carnlough and really appreciate the village and surrounding beach, harbour and countryside as a wonderful destination for either a relaxing retreat or rejuvenating break. As the lyrics go, 'O we do like to be beside the seaside...' Well, I certainly do! And in all kinds of weather - blazing summer days - perfect for long coastal rambles on sweeping sands and in the cooler months pumping surf and temperatures just right for heart racing walks. Then head home to a glass of wine and relaxing in the garden or sitting beside a crackling fire! Perfect! I enjoy the simple pleasures in life and I enjoy mini-breaks in warm, inviting surroundings with a little touch of luxury - because we all deserve it!! The things I enjoy most can be found in Lisowen House and are even better when shared with family and friends!
