A beautiful private space all to yourself, the Oak Barn has great character & enjoys lovely views over fields to the Chilterns beyond. You have your own entrance & key so can come & go as you please. The hamlet of Preston Crowmarsh lies on the river Thames & is a great place to wild swim & spot red kites. A 5 minute walk takes you to the Thames towpath & an 8 minute walk to the bus stop for Oxford and Reading. We leave you to enjoy your privacy but are next door in the main house if needed.

The space
The Oak Barn has underfloor heating so is toasty warm and cosy in the winter. Big windows open onto the fields beyond so sunlight streams in too.
The space is accessed up a wooden staircase with handrail and has a cupboard at the top for your coats and wellies/walking boots. Inside you'll find a king size bed, a desk in the window with gorgeous views over the fields, a comfy sofa to watch the TV, a radio and cd player, a bookshelf full of books and a basket full of cards and games. We have reliable WiFi connection and good mobile phone reception.
We supply towels, soap and shampoo in the en-suite shower room which also has underfloor heating.
Whilst there is no kitchen in the Oak Barn, there is a fridge with a small icebox, a kettle and cutlery and crockery. I start you off with coffee, tea, a pint of milk, sugar and biscuits plus croissant with jam and honey for your first breakfast.
You can use our washing machine and dryer (or better still the washing line!), and our iron, please just ask.
You can watch the occasional helicopters coming and going at nearby RAF Benson and sometimes even the Red Arrows, you shouldn't find the noise intrusive and they rarely fly after midnight.

Other things to note
Self check-in - I will leave you a key.

As this is an oak frame barn there are places with restricted headroom which you can see in the photos, please mind your head!

In the winter when the heating is on the Barn can become quite ‘chatty’ as one delighted guest described it! There are occasional creaks you might hear as the wood heats and cools but nothing that would disturb a good nights rest.

Location

WALLINGFORD , Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

There are numerous places nearby to visit including Dorchester on Thames with it's glorious abbey, Wallingford, home of Agatha Christie and Henley-on-Thames, a pretty market town internationally famous for its rowing regatta and festival. The university city of Oxford is a 20 minute bus ride away. Also nearby are National Trust properties Greys Court, Nuffield Place and Basildon Park. Harcourt Arboretum, the Earth Trust Centre, the Aston Martin Heritage Trust Museum and Wittenham Clumps for stunning panoramic views of south Oxfordshire are all close by too. The next door village of Benson, an easy walk from the Barn, has everything you need including a pharmacy, library, an excellent coffee shop, supermarket, gift shop, butcher, pubs, a takeaway, a dentist, doctors surgery and a church. At either end of Preston Crowmarsh we are lucky enough to have 2 very good cafes open throughout the year, perfect for a riverside breakfast with the papers, for lunch or a leisurely cream tea, both cafes are within 10 minutes walk.
For those who enjoy wild swimming there are various places to access the river all along the Thames towpath towards Wallingford.

Husband Jonathan and I love travelling and meeting people along the way. We've driven from home to Mongolia, across the Yukon in northern Canada, along the Ho Chi Minh trail in Vietnam (in old war-time US Jeeps), done a 16,500mile rally around South America and there's still so much more we want to see which should be easier now we’ve retired!
