Good to see your feedback. Thank you.
I'm sorry that your stay had some hiccups. I wish you had brought your concerns to me (except the room door lock of course), and possibly found alternative housing that made you feel more comfortable.
The desk in the room was for the fan only to circulate some air during hot summer days.
The curtain is something new so I'll take a look at that.
The secure lock pad and alarm system are ample security. I've never had issues with security with any guest. I did mention to you that the rooms no longer have individual locks because people lock themselves out of their rooms when I'm out of town on business and break down my doors so that was eliminated. But you did use the room key nevertheless.
I'm not sure if you read my listing at all before booking or even looked at my profile but you make it sound like you had to shower in another apt whereas this is one continuous townhouse with multiple floors.
Most people rent this room for the private 1/2 bathroom. If that was not your need, I guess I can see why you were not pleased with having to walk up the stairs to go shower only.
As for the neighborhood, yes it is Chicago and like anywhere else, there are some interesting characters around. I'm not sure why 'white witch' offended you as you're not white even, just sounds amusing to me.
My tip to you would be if you have concerns in the future about a rental space, bring it to the owner's attention and if not resolved to your satisfaction, ask for a refund and then find alternative housing. I've lived in my neighborhood for over 7 yrs and hosted people from all over the world with no issues and the prestigious university of Chicago has called it home for decades. Reducing it to "black neighborhood" like something to be ashamed of isn't doing this historic neighborhood justice.
