The space
This full upstairs home (inquire for details on additional space for large groups), lovingly referred to as the "PuPu Palace," is over 1600 square feet, with a high vaulted ceiling open-living room/kitchen, three large bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom and larger guest room both have King sized foam beds. The second guest bedroom has a Queen sized foam bed. And be sure to enjoy the super-fast WiFi while you relax anywhere in the house.
The house gets its name (PuPu is pidgin for"appetizer") from the massive, fully-featured kitchen with an LPG (gas) range/oven, full-sized fridge, dishwasher, 1200W inverter microwave, toaster, coffee maker and rice-cooker/steamer, as well as all the pots, pans, kitchenware, utensils, silverware, mugs and glasses you need to create and serve your own PuPus and meals.
The kitchen and living room both open up to a full-length, screened lanai to enjoy the view of Kailua Bay, free from the obstruction of doors or windows. As with any open, tropical-style house like this, all cooling is via ample ceiling and free-standing fans - there is NO AIR CONDITIONING (AC).
There are beds for up to 6 people. Two more people can be accommodated on a provided blow-up Queen sized bed and/or individual sleeping pads, for an additional $40 per person, per night. Max occupancy is 8 people total. Children over 2 are included in the total count. A high-chair and mini-crib are available (38"/50lb max) for setup on request.
There is an additional living space below the main home that is sometimes occupied by medium-term (1-2 month) renters, if that space is occupied, all the same rules apply, and I ask all guests to be considerate of each other, especially early in the morning and at night, by lowering their volume and minding the open-air nature of the living space to reduce noise wherever possible.
Upon booking you will get access to my Big Island List! I keep it updated with things to do, places to eat, beaches to see and fun to be had.
Guest access
Guest will have access to all upstairs living space, except the garage (only in case of emergency or directed access).
There is driveway parking available.
Please enjoy my delicious mangoes from the tree in the backyard when they're in season and available (normally April through July)! There is also a green orange tree and some other edible fruits in the backyard. Pineapples are a fragile, precious and slow-growing commodity, however, so please do not pick or otherwise molest them.
Other things to note
IMPORTANT:
All bookings include the Hawaii Occupancy Tax @ 17.962% (comprised of 10.25% State Transient Accommodation + 3% County Transient Accommodation + 4.7120% General Excise Tax).
HAWAII COUNTY RESTRICTIONS:
- Quiet hours shall be from 9:00pm to 8:00am, during which time the noise from the rental shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors
- Sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area
- Guest vehicles shall be parked in the designated onsite parking area
- The STVR (short term vacation rental) shall not be used for commercial purposes
There are TVs with BASIC CABLE in the living room and master bedroom only. The living room TV also has a smart DVD/BD player. Rentals are also available from Redbox locations at Safeway, KTA and Walmart.
Both the living room and master bedroom TVs are also connected to Chromecast devices, so you can stream video and audio content to them from your mobile device, tablet or laptop (Chrome browser only). You can search for "Chromecast" or "Goo gle Home" to download the "Goo gle Home" app from the Play Store, or iTunes for your device/platform. Apple users can also install Home, or look for apps called "Allcast" (free) or "Cinch for Chromecast" ($5) to play their iTunes content.
There is VERY FAST fiber internet (900+ Mbps download / 500+ upload), and GREAT mesh WiFi signal throughout the house and premises. Newer devices can enjoy faster 802.11ax/WiFi 6 speeds.
I am unable to offer anything other than basic instructions on how to connect to the WiFi. If you are having problems with your devices during your stay, I do contract with a professional who can take care of your IT support needs, and I can bill you for his hourly costs.
There is a cordless VoIP phone you can use for free local and long distance calls to the US and Canada. It is tied to my house address for E911 services in case of emergency (i.e. calling 911 does work).
The cesspool that serves my home ONLY tolerates (septic-safe) toilet paper, human waste, and NOTHING else. Should there be a plumbing emergency due to flushing other paper, foreign objects or feminine products, you will liable for the pumping fees, which can cost several thousand dollars, on average.
