Charming self-contained stone cottage, 5 km from Castlemaine, in the picturesque historic village of Chewton. Ottery Cottage forms part of an 1850’s historic property and includes a private garden with splendid views overlooking the National park.

While the property has a main road address, the cottage is tucked away from the road next to the national park.

The space

Within walking distance of local amenities and historic sites, 5 km from Castlemaine. Ottery Cottage is the perfect base from which to explore the diverse attractions of the Central Victorian Gold fields, whilst enjoying your own unique space within this delightful environment. The cottage is an ideal retreat for couples. Our guests describe the cottage as charming, cosy, and comfortable.

2 night minimum booking
The cottage has 1 queen-size bed. No additional bedding arrangements are possible.

Guest access

Ottery Cottage is set back from the main part of an 1850′s historic gold fields property, perched on the edge of Forest Creek. Splendid views from the private garden overlooking the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park.

Interaction with guests

We like to meet and greet all of our guests. As the cottage is located on the property where we live, we are available to provide assistance if required - however we do like to give our guests privacy. The cottage is located away from the main residence, so you will have your own private space to enjoy.

Other things to note

Most people enjoy their time more at the cottage if they stay for more than 1 night. We do have a 2 night minimum stay policy.

Really perfect place for a quiet retreat. Isolated enough to feel like a cabin in the woods... close enough to food and sites to keep you busy if you can tear yourself out of the spa bath. Will be back!

I cannot recommend the cottage highly enough. Beautiful location and peaceful space right on the national park. Can't wait to go back.

It's a very romantic little cottage, warm and cozy. Phil was very nice and helpful, and they left delicious organic milk, OJ, coffee and sourdough bread for breakfast. The jacuzzi was delightful and at night we got to sit down outside and listen to the frogs. We loved our stay and we'll definitely be going back if we are again in the area.

Very pretty cottage at the bottom of the garden. Fresh OJ, coffee and local sourdough are a very thoughtful touch. Thanks for a great stay!

We loved our stay at this beautiful and very comfortable cottage. Gas heater kept it nice and warm! The 1 hour walk to Castlemaine was very nice (and the drive is very easy and quick). Appreciated the host's recommendations and the breakfast supplies. Highly recommended it!

Charming, cosy cottage in a relaxed environment , just as described and seen in the pictures. Organic milk , coffee and orange juice as well as tea leaves not tea bags, nice touch. Easy walks to do right behind the cottage. Chewton has some lovely old buildings and history. Wesley Hill market was just up the road. Thank you for a memorable stay.
