Unfortunately we had to ask them to leave a month into their stay. (They were due to stay for 3 months).
We did everything to welcome them to CT… Even went as far as driving them around, showing them where to go and the best and safest places to visit. We also used our names to get them set up with SA SIM cards for their mobile phones.
After the 3rd day, they started complaining saying that the flat was dirty. (We are meticulous about cleanliness as can be seen by our previous personal reviews and the photos on our profile). We rectified everything they complained about that same day. We bought them a new washing machine, pots, pans and vacuum cleaner since they complained about hair being in the vacuum cleaner and a damp smell in the washing machine amongst other things. We have 3 dogs and unfortunately our cleaning lady had used our upstairs washing machine to clean the linen and there were a couple dog hairs in the corners of the fitted sheet. We apologized profusely (bought them brand new linen and gave them full complimentary cleaning services once a week with our cleaning lady for the duration of their stay). We asked them if they were happy and they said they were. When our cleaning lady went down to clean the apartment, she was shocked and called me to have a look. The place was an ABSOLUTE MESS. We felt they had no respect whatsoever for our things. There was a burn mark on the lamp shade, tobacco and cigarette ash on the bedside table and all over the coffee table in the lounge. Their clothes, our new towels and new linen scattered everywhere and the kitchen was filthy with food all over the floor and counters. They damaged all our brand new pots (using metal utensils not the ones that were provided), and there were items that had been broken. Jessica mentioned that she had tried to clean a glass shelf and in the scullery and it had fallen off and broken leaving her with a bump on her head. (We have had people staying here for 3 years and not once did it fall, let alone move when cleaning). After the 3rd week, our cleaning lady refused to clean the apartment again. The last straw was illegal activity that was happening downstairs. When I approached them and said what they were doing was breaking the law, they said they would stop. It was then that we thought it best that they leave. There was a huge language barrier which made it difficult to communicate. We have NEVER had issues like this with previous tenants and this was quite a shock. We contacted Airbnb so they could get their refund and Airbnb took care of it. I am still getting rude messages from the tenants asking us for their refund when Airbnb have said that they have paid. This was NOT a good experience and sadly we cannot recommend them.
