About this listing

With a panoramic view of the canal and Bridge 21 from your windows, your apartment is on the promenade and steps from the shops, pubs, restaurants, trails and marina. Nickel Beach is a 10 minute bike ride and the vineyards a short car ride away. We are certified cycle friendly by Ontario By Bike, providing secure indoor storage for your bicycles and other gear.

The space

The building was originally a Canadian Bank Of Commerce, built in 1920, complete with a vault on the main floor. The second floor, originally the residence of the bank manager, is now Pilot Lodging, a fully furnished suite for short term accommodations for tourists, visitors, business travelers, cyclists, hikers, birders and boaters. The municipal transient boater docks, the Waterfront Trail, the Greater Niagara Circle Route Trail and the Port Promenade are directly in front of the building. Port Colborne is a working port with more than 3,000 ships from more than 50 nations transiting the Welland Canal annually, right in front of the building. During the Canal Days Marine Heritage festival in the summer, the tall ships dock in front of the building as 300,000 or so people visit the area. The Sugarloaf Marina, horseback riding, fishing and beaches are minutes away, while Niagara Falls and many Niagara Region Wineries and craft breweries are a short drive away.

Guest access

Guests have private access to a self-contained fully furnished apartment on the entire second floor and come and go as they please. A second bedroom with a full size sofa-bed is now available on the ground floor. Free, secure indoor storage is available for guest's bicycles and basic bicycle tools are available. Free laundry facilities are available to all guests.

Interaction with guests

It's up to the guests. We're available to point out beaches, restaurants, museums, the canal features or whatever else guests might be interested in.

We had a great stay. The neighborhood was charming and the location was perfect for us. It was really neat to be able to look out the windows and see the big freighters quietly slip by. The place was very well equipped, quiet and clean. We enjoyed the history and charm of the building too. Ted was a great host. He met us on arrival and gave us a thorough tour of the home pointing out everything we needed to know and providing advice and information about the surroundings. We would definitely stay again.

Ted's place is comfortable and clean. The canal view is spectacular, many ships pass through and you have a front row seat from the apartment windows. The shower is impossibly small due to there only being a claw front tub with curtain surround. Supplies are plentiful, toilet paper, towels, dishes, etc...We rate this stay an 8.

We throughly enjoyed our stay! It was quite and peaceful, a very charming port town. The location was great. There were great restaurants and shops all within walking distance. We would stay again for sure! Thanks so much Ted :)!

Great and very welcoming hosts who made us feel right at home. We thought it was a perfect location for cycling along the nearby trails. Very secure for bicycles and very bike-friendly. Tidy, comfortable and very spacious apartment plus lovely view of passing ships on the Welland canal. Could not ask for more.
