Welcome to Oxbow Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals.

Oxbow Cottage is a delightful Cotswold stone barn conversion which sleeps 2 guests, in one charming bedroom, with a smart bathroom. Dating back to the early 19th century when oxen used to work the land, the property boasts many character features including beautiful high vaulted ceilings with lovely exposed beams, exposed Cotswold stone walls and a warming wood burning stove. The character of the property is complemented by modern facilities including wireless internet access, a Smart TV with a DVD player, and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a private garden to the side of the property offering fantastic rural views, and off-street parking for two cars is provided.

Oxbow Cottage sits in the idyllic hamlet of Maugersbury, located almost 200ft above the valley bottom below. Surrounded by glorious countryside, there are many walks and cycle routes on its doorstep including those over to the neighbouring villages of Broadwell and The Oddingtons, all home to popular country pubs. The much loved market town of Stow-on-the-Wold is just half a mile away, benefitting from a number of independent shops, restaurants and tearooms, along with the Farmers’ market which takes place every second Thursday of the month, showcasing quality local produce. Stow’s main feature is the historic market square which used to host the annual sheep fairs, and the narrow alleyways, or ‘tures’, would have been used to channel the hundreds of sheep to market.

Maugersbury is well-placed for exploring the many picturesque towns and villages of the North Cotswolds including Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden, Bourton-on-the-Water and The Slaughters. These picture-postcard settings offer a range of eateries and tourist attractions, and for day trips, further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath are easily accessible.

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.
