★★★★★”We absolutely loved our stay.”

Step back in time while not foregoing comfort and amenities. This sweet little schoolhouse served its school district from 1869 to the 1960's, and then went on to be a gathering place for the community. In 2016, the schoolhouse was completely remodeled into the beautiful, modern, cozy retreat that it is today. There is so much history to be discovered here!

Stay in the peace of the prairie countryside while taking part in so much available to do in close proximity! We provide a list of things to do in the neighborhood overview below, and in detail in the guidebook provided at the home.

Enjoy the large fire ring during your stay! Bring backup firewood and camp chairs to enjoy the night sky next to a warm fire!

The schoolhouse features one enclosed bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor and two loft bedrooms that are each equipped with a queen bed. Loft bedrooms are accessed by built-in ladders and are not suitable for small children or those with mobility issues. The main floor living space features a fold out couch and room for two air mattresses.

There are one full and one half bath, a dining table that seats six, a breakfast bar for two, and a full kitchen.

The living room is equipped with a smart tv that allows you to log into all your streaming services (and automatically logs you out on check-out day), a blue ray player, games, an electric fireplace, and complimentary wifi.

Washer and dryer on site.

Where you’ll be

Paola, Kansas, United States

Established in 1869, you'll be staying in the historic Vickers Schoolhouse, its own countryside landmark.

Situated on 3 acres in rural Miami County, you'll experience tranquility and wide open spaces that afford great views of breathtaking sunsets. Swing on the old tree swing, or on the old school swing! Sip tea and grill a steak on the back porch. Or, grab a friend for balance and take a spin on the old merry-go-round.

Your resting place feels like it's a million miles out in the country, but restaurants, grocery stores and everything you need are as close as a 6 minute car ride.

Looking for something fun to do? Miami County is known for its wineries, cider mill, and antique and up-cycled boutiques. Come for farm fresh fruit orchards, pecan groves, and berry patches. Ride the Miami County Trolley for a day of wine tasting, live music and farm to table dining!

Want to throw a line? You'll be near Hillsdale Lake, Miami County State Fishing Lake, Middle Creek Lake, all stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish.

A short distance south, you'll find the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge with 5,000 acres of hunting, fishing and birding land, plus another 2,500 acres of wildlife sanctuary.

Nearby Osawatomie, KS offers the eastern terminus of the Flint Hills Nature Trail. This rail trail stretches for 117 miles alongside the Marais Des Cygnes River, between rushing waters and towering bluffs, through rolling farmland and riparian woodlands, and it passes through the beautiful Flint Hills, one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the world. Flint Hills Nature Trail forms a component of the coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail.
