Podere Leccetro is a farm holiday cottage situated in the natural Park of Val di Merse, only a 30-minute drive from Siena city centre, near the Abbey of San Galgano and Petriolo'Baths
Here you can find the quiet beauty of Tuscan countryside without being too far from the city and from many other natural, cultural and historical sites which characterize our amazing province.

The space
The farm, situated in a glade circled by woods of elm, oak and chestnut trees, is surrounded by lush, green lawns and has been made out of an old outbuilding hayloft-stable where my wife and I live and work.

The external structure of the antique hayloft- stall has not been modified while the interior has been entirely redecorated trying to keep the style of our area both in the materials and in the furniture.
We have restored some of the old family furniture ourselves trying to be environmentally friendly and as much as possible in harmony with nature.
The cottage is full of light, the large windows allow you to admire the beauty woods and around hills.
The external structure of the old stone barn, that we transformed in farmhouse, has not been modified. Inside there are two independent llodging.
The garden is totally fenced so do not hesitate to bring your dog. We love animals.
Guests can also enjoy the whole lawn surrounding the house, to have meals outside using the wooden table and benches we made, relax in the shade of the old trees.
My name is Francesco and I am a beekeeper. My love for nature made me move here from Florence where I was born and where I studied Agriculture at the University 30 years ago.
My wife Giuliana moved here 10 years ago after giving up her job in Florence fed up with the frenzy rhythm of the city life. Now she lives here growing plants and looking after our pets.

Location

Monticiano, Toscana, Italy

The valleys of the rivers Merse and Farma are famous for their clear water, the un-ending woodland, their mushrooms and their gastronomical specialties, based on game, above all wild boar stew.

Long ago this was the land of the charcoal burners and bandits and even before pilgrims crossed our wild area on their "Via Francigena"to Rome.
It is possible to organize walking excursions and bicycle tours leading to the Terme di Petriolo with its traces of a Roman settlement and the hot water pool on the banks of the river Farma.

You can also visit the Monastery of San Galgano, to the clear waters of the river Merse, to the little Etruscan museum and the miners´ ancient settlement in Murlo.

In half an hour you can reach Siena by car, but also the impressive area of the Crete Senesi and the nearby Abbazia di Monteoliveto, the wine-haven Montalcino, and a bit further away the earlier Popes´ residence Pienza. In an hours drive you reach Monte Amiata, the sandy beaches of the Maremmanian coast near Grosseto or - going north - you can sightsee San Gimignano or Florence.
