Experience the Finnish country side living in a modest, traditional wooden cabin! You can cook your food in the cabin or in a traditional way on open fire in one of our grills. Plenty to do - excellent hiking opportunities, rowing boat for rent and events and trips can be arranged to see the Medieval church of Porvoo, for instance. Or Come and fish with us! Field and a forest in the back of the cabin and a lake across the street. Experience the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights!

The space
A small cabin with a small kitchenette. Free coffee, creamer, tea and Finnish ´hapankorppu´ - dried, thin crispy bread - always available. One bed and a sofa bed that fits two in the room and a mattress can be put on the kitchen floor. Tiny but cozy! Books and magazines to read, games to play and a free WiFi. There is heating, so wintertime would be fun too! No running water yet - but we are working on it.

Guest access
You will have your own entrance into the main house, which is only about 40m away. You will have your own toilet in the main house, and access to sauna and shower, which our family use too. We will do your laundry for a small fee. If you want, you can visit us in the main house.

Other things to note
We will do our best to get the water line to the cabin work. Meanwhile, pitchers are provided and clean, drinkable water can be fetched from the shower room. We are renovating the main house and building a henhouse and a stable for sheep, so there will be some building supplies laying around the house. The dogs are the friendliest creatures, they just may scare you at first by barking and running towards you, but trust me, they just want to be your best friends. The cabin itself is a pet-free area.

Location

Lapinjärvi, Finland

This is a VERY calm rural village to live in! There athmosphere is like if the time has stopped. Our closest neighboring house is empty, the owners visit it only sometimes. Lapinjärvi is a bilingual village, Swedish and Finnish are spoken equally. There is only one grocery store, a hardware store, a cafe, a pharmacy, a bank, a hairdresser, a handicraft store and a pizza parlour. That's it. The people here are friendly. Our friends have sheep, so you can go and pet them.

Hi, I am Asta! That's me on the left. The One on the right is my spouse Katriina. We are a bilingual (Fin-Eng) family of four: two moms (me: a criminologist and Katriina: a theology major/producer) and two kids, aged 9 and 11. We live in Lapinjärvi, a charming small rural village close to the historical towns of Porvoo and Loviisa, and Kouvola for shopping opportunities (30mins by car to each town), about an hour from Helsinki. Pick-up from those cities and Helsinki airport can be arranged with an additional price. We also offer nature-related activities and experiences. Whether you would you like to take a dip in Finland's largerst Giant's Kettle, go picking berries or mushroom, go hiking or go on a fishing trip with a rowing boat and have lunch on open fire on a nearby island, we can organize small trips. We also have a rowing boat that can be rented. Welcome to enjoy the Finnish nature, staying in a simple log cabin with a simple kitchenette , wilderness starting practically from our back yard, and the lake is across the street, 0.4 to a small beach. 1km to grocery store, pharmacy, cafe and a handicraft store. A simple shallow water pool for the kids and child guests, and English/Finnish speaking kids to play with your children. Two open fireplaces and a charcoal grill for you to use as well. Excellent snow shoeing/cross-country skiing/skating possibilities during wintertime, if there is snow. Laundry service for a small fee in the main house, where we live in. The log cabin is located on our yard. We have two big but very friendly dogs, of which the older one is allowed to roam freely on the premises. We also have a puppy (born 7/2020). The neighbour's chicken like to visit us too, sometimes they are very curious about what's going on here, but they are friendly.
