A few words about our city:
Lviv-city in western Ukraine with a population of 732.0 thousand people (as of 1 January 2011). Located on the river Poltva, a distance of about 70 km from the border with Poland.
Lviv has always been an important cultural center. At the end of 1970 there were five theaters, a philharmonic, about 40 movie theaters, circus, 46 Palaces of Culture, 12 major museums, 350 libraries.
The city has many famous writers, composers, artists, architects, and journalists.
The architecture of Lviv, there is little affected during the wars of the XX century, reflects many European styles and trends, corresponding to different historical epochs. After fires in 1527 and 1556 are almost no traces of the Gothic in Lviv, but well presented later Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism. Characteristic of Lviv became the style of Austrian Art Nouveau - Art Nouveau, there are houses built in the style of modern Ukrainian and Berlin, a well as Art Deco, Constructivism and the Bauhaus. There is also the period of Stalin's neo-classical building.
The historic center of the city included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It retained much of the architectural monuments dating from XIV-XVII centuries. In the central part of the year 2000 there were 960 (95% of them - living), of which 625 were in poor condition.
