Our 1850's Greek Revival farmhouses in a quiet neighborhood less than a mile from downtown Andover. Set on almost an acre of land, it is surrounded by gardens and backed by 80 acres of Phillips Academy Bird Sanctuary. We have two private, second floor guest rooms available by the night or by the week. The larger of the two rooms is furnished with antique double bed, comfortable chair for reading or just relaxing, 19th century bureau, full double closet, large mirror and Currier and Ives prints. The room faces south with lovely views of the back yard, gardens and tall white pines in the Bird Sanctuary. The shared bath with tub and shower is just down the hall from the guest rooms. We offer tables and chairs in the garden for resting and relaxing, and plenty of off street parking. We'll have freshly ground coffee and a large selection of teas waiting for you in the morning.
We are not big TV watchers, so our television lives in a downstairs closet. In the fall and winter we bring it out on Sunday evenings for favorite PBS programs. If there is a program you'd like to see we'll be glad to set it up in the living room for you.
If we are up at the same time in the morning we’ll gladly have coffee and tea ready. If our schedules don’t mesh, we’ll show you where everything is and you are welcome to fix your own. For guests staying for an extended period we have a small separate refrigerator to keep perishable food and space in the cupboards to store non-perishable foods. You are always welcome to help yourself to tea and coffee. In the summer we enjoy eating outdoors in the garden, especially for breakfast. In colder seasons we generally eat in the kitchen or you may choose to eat in our dining room.
During fall and winter, we have a warming evening fire in the living room Franklin stove.
Interaction with guests
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We are both self employed and have offices in the house. On some days we’ll be available all day and other days or evenings we’ll be on the run, depending on schedules.
We really enjoy company and meeting new people. We are happy to help get guests situated and give directions and suggestions for all the wonderful things to see and do in Andover, southern New Hampshire, on the North Shore or in nearby Boston. Boston is easily accessible by private car and commuter rail, which leaves and returns to Andover on a regular basis.
Other things to note
This is an old farmhouse and the 12 stairs to the second floor are fairly steep and could be challenging for people with any mobility issues.
There is no smoking in the house, but you may do so outdoors, far away from the house. Cigarette butts should be crushed and returned to your car.
This is an old farmhouse so please do not light candles or burn incense in your room.
We do not allow drugs, parties and unannounced visitors. Please be sure to let us know if you are expecting a visitor.
You are welcome to make yourself at home in the common living areas and to use the kitchen, but please clean up after yourself. Wash pots and pans and put away. Rinse dirty dishes and leave in the sink. We'll load them into the dishwasher.
Drinks are fine in the bedrooms, but we ask that no food be kept in the bedroom. There is a small guest refrigerator for cold storage and shelf space for non-perishables if needed.
We have no “lights out" policy but do ask all radios and computers be turned down after 10:30 PM to allow other guests to sleep peacefully.
Due to allergies, we cannot have pets stay with us.
