Woodend has a unique Shepherds Hut nestled in its own private garden. Free parking. Decked area with love seats.
Bbq and bench seat.
Inside, is a built in high double bed, with plenty of storage space underneath. Kitchen area has a Ceramic 2 hob stove and microwave oven, fridge freezer. cupboard space and a kettle tap. Fold away table and chairs. An electric fire. Shower room with w.c and wash hand basin. The extra shed with heater allows drying of wet cloths and extra storage.

The space
The Shepherds Hut will accommodates 2 people. The kitchen area has plenty of cupboard space and is well equipped. There is a microwave and a 2 hob ceramic stove. Hot running water from the kitchen tap but NO hot water in the bathroom sink tap. The shower is electric with constant hot water. Over the door hangers are in the shower room to hang towels etc and one on the other side of the door to hang jackets on. The heated towel rail is also in a good position to dry wet cloths.
The electric fire gives a real fire glow with a good heat and is a focal point in the room.
The built in bed is higher than most, with a large drawer under the bed giving good storage for either clothes or suitcases. Under the other half of the bed is open for more storage, the step for the bed is under here.
The mattress is pocket sprung from Benson for beds. 13.5 tog duvet and good quality pillows. A super soft teddy fabric extra cover. The cushions are hand made by myself, a mix of crochet, knitted and woven from beautiful Orkney wool, all the original colours of the sheep. ( no dyeing of the wool)
The felted wall picture is also made by myself.
There is a decent wifi connection. You will Not get a mobile phone signal in or around Balmacara Square or the Highlands but you might get the odd signal if you are lucky.
The shed at the side of the Shepherd hut holds the bbq and has a floor heater with a cloths rail, you can dry wet cloths here.
Park your car in the free car park next to the Shepherd Hut. Enter through the arched entranced gate. This is sign posted and well lit for dark evenings. You have now entered the enclosed garden space with a high fence all round for Privacy. The Hut looks out on to Sgurr Mhor (hill) and the surrounding area of the crofting hills. No one looks on to you. Check in is 4pm

Where you’ll be

Balmacara, Scotland, United Kingdom

Woodend is just off the main route to Kyle of Lochalsh and The Isle of Skye. (3 miles away). In the village we have Beths cafe and Delicatessen shop.' Home in the highlands' gift shop and a Gallery which displays local artists work through out the year. Lots of fantastic walks either over the hills or around Balmacara estate. 1 mile to the local shop and hotel. Eilean Donan castle is 6 miles away. The beautiful village of Plockton is 5 miles from Woodend. I would suggest eating in the Plockton Inn for evening meals. You need to book in advance. Please check out my GUIDEBOOK at the bottom of this page in the (neighborhood and map section) for more information on eateries and places to visit.

I have worked around these shores in the Hospitality Industry most of my working life, and now my husband and I have an opportunity to open the upstairs of our home for Air B and B. My Hubby Alan loves his motor bikes, he has his own garage business in Kyle of Lochalsh where he is forever modifying and reconstructing them. My passion is Tai chi where I am a 2nd Teng grade in Tai chi and a 1st Pan in Feng shou, basically it means i can and do teach in the Kyle village hall. My other love is crafts. I have a log cabin by the house where in the future I optimistically will be able to create wonderful patchwork/ sewing/ knitted/ embroidered pieces of sell able art. Fingers crossed. Our other love is our 3 year old Grandson whom spends a lot of time with us, and why not? Its always fun at Grannies, we love our local walks, of which are many and popping into our local cafe for cakes. I am going to enjoy our new venture and look forward to meeting a wide range of guests from all walks of life. We are both friendly people and will do our best to help our guests, whether that is knowledge of the eateries in the area or helping plan your day ahead to see the tourist attractions.
