A beautiful ‘off grid’ Shepherds hut for two (sleeps up to three with king-size bed and small single bed), in a idyllic location on the banks of unspoilt Loch Ken, in SW Scotland.

Enjoy the simple pleasures of slow living in our eco friendly hut , spend the evening watching the sun set over the loch from the decking or around the outdoor fire pit at the edge of the loch .A romantic getaway or rural escape, in a beautiful secluded spot where you can star gaze under our dark sky.

The space
Our Shepherds hut is situated on the shore of Loch Ken, with views over the Galloway Forest park in a unique UNESCO biosphere and dark sky location. We provide a break from a hectic world, but can also cater for the more adventurous, with a water sports marina and the galloway activity centre only a mile away. Enjoy the evening sun from the decking or loch side, with wildlife to spot - heron, wild ducks, deer, hedgehogs, red squirrels, owls, otters (dawn & dusk if you’re lucky!) and red kites to name a few. Inside, our pot belly stove not only keeps you snug but can be used for cooking -use the top as a hot plate for making that perfect cup of coffee in the coffee pot provided . For warmer days there is an outdoor fire pit beside the hut or light the one down at the waters edge ( other cooking options include charcoal bbq , gas camping ring or enjoy a meal at the award winning Clachan Inn 5 miles away). As the nights draw in you can light the stove , close the shutters and climb into the super comfy king sized bed (with mattress topper and crisp white bed linen). In the mornings enjoy a lie -in, read or take in the views of the loch and all it’s wildlife without ever having to get out of bed ! There is hot and cold running water, small Belfast sink (water pumped to the hut and shower using energy from a solar panel) chairs, table, enamel crockery and all your essential cooking utensils provided inside the hut. Try your hand at some eco friendly and rustic living with an eco composting toilet ( luxury woohoo style so no smells or separating required) and a separate hot water rainforest shower situated a couple of metres away for privacy, but not too far away for a visit in the middle of the night. (Or the brave may just want to bath in the loch under the stars ! )

We are Eco friendly and electricity free (bring your own battery pack, 4G is available if you want it) . We provide bottled drinking water, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate , sugar, salt and pepper with well-stocked village shops located in Balmaclellan (4 miles away), New Galloway and Dalry . We support the ethos of wild camping with a ‘leave no trace’ (please take away your rubbish and use water sparingly) policy.

If you are adventurous or just wish to escape... book your stay with us now !
