Our cabin is located in the quiet hamlet of Campden in Niagara wine country and within easy reach of wineries, hiking trails and bike routes. After you arrive, you will walk through our lovely gardens to the rear of the property which backs onto protected forest green-space.

The space
You can enjoy a rustic cabin experience without having to make the drive north! The cabin has comfortable old-fashioned furniture with a gas fireplace and an airy sleeping loft for 3. The tiny-house kitchen is equipped with the basics: small gas stove, dishes and cutlery, pots and pans (cast iron frypan) and a mini-fridge. There’s a French press for your morning coffee. A gas barbecue is also provided. (Water for doing dishes is manually heated on the stove.) You have your own fire pit for s’mores or hotdogs as well and wood is provided.

The cabin is quite comfortable but please know that it, being a cabin, is rustic in the true sense of the word :) Kitchen tap water is from a refillable reservoir in winter as is the drinking water. There will be some communication (by text or Airbnb message) between me and you concerning this during your stay. The propane heat also requires this. We do our level best to stay on top of things while you are here but hope you understand that you may need to let us know when things are running low in order to keep your experience optimum :). When you book, you will have access to the house manual in the listing in order to keep things easy.

Noted elsewhere but worth mentioning twice so that it isn’t missed, you are “getting away from it all” in our cabin :)
Wifi doesn’t extend to the back of the property where the cabin is located. You are welcome to use our comfortable solarium/greenhouse to access our Wifi however. When we have guests, our family avoids this area and, under Covid lockdowns, we make it off-limits to us :). As well, cell phone service can be kind of sketchy here. Rogers works fine for us but some other towers seem to be subject to the influence of cloud cover, etc.

A quaint outhouse with flush toilet is steps away. Access to a second full bathroom with a shower is just inside the back door of the main house. (PLEASE NOTE: In the winter months, the outhouse is too cold so, instead, you have full access to this bathroom - mainly for guests - in the back of the house. This area is not the main family space and we also wipe down surfaces frequently when guests are here. Under Covid restrictions, we avoid the area completely. We have had some freezing temperatures already so this is the current situation.)

We have a large vegetable garden that you can share from in-season as well as chickens sharing fresh eggs. There’s even a friendly rooster to add to the experience! (If his morning wake-up calls bother you, come equipped with ear-plugs or white noise 🙂.)

Our property is located in a small town with a out-in-the-country vibe. We do have close neighbours though so expect the regular neighbourhood noise such as lawn-cutting, etc. As far as we are able, I will give you a heads-up on neighbourhood activities when you reach out to book.

Our neighbours are kind enough to share the hiking path through the woods. This is lovely for short walks. If you’re an earlier riser, watching the sun come up through the woods is delightful. The Bruce Trail is a couple of country blocks away as well, with other well-marked off-trails, such as Twenty Valley and Louth Conservation Area, within easy driving distance. These trails are particularly beautiful at this time of year and well into the winter. Please see my Guidebook for more information. The back roads are lovely if you are a cyclist, especially in the nearby Fonthill area.

Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake are only a 1/2 an hour’s drive away. Lake Erie is not much farther. Wineries and restaurants abound!

Guest access
You are welcome to enjoy our attached greenhouse/ solarium when you need wifi access. If you need it for an extended period of time, just let me know and we will give you some privacy there as necessary.

Other things to note
Parking is directly across the street in the hydro lot - although please feel free to use our driveway when arriving and unpacking.

During your stay
We love to meet new people but recognize that you are probably here to “get away from it all” so we do our best to give you privacy. Some of your coming and going will involve using our section of backyard though - a bit of interaction will be necessary - so we hope you like meeting new people too! We always like to stop and chat and are normally available personally for questions. Text, phone or email also works. 😊
We also have a socially busy family so our grandchildren may occasionally stop and say, “Hi”, since they love new people too!
