Craigieburn garden bothy is a glamping-type single room bothy in a lovely 6-acre garden in beautiful Moffatdale, a great location for walkers and cyclists. The garden has woodlands, waterfalls, wildlife and exceptional planting for you to roam in. The bothy has no mains water or electricity so is a real alternative experience, with separate flush toilet and washing facilities. Otherwise all home comforts are provided with double bed, kitchenette and wood-burning stove to create a cosy atmosphere

The space
Craigieburn garden bothy is glamping-type accommodation, a single room bothy, set in a lovely position in the 6-acre garden of Craigieburn house. The garden is set beside the wooded gorge and waterfalls of the Craigie burn in beautiful Moffatdale and is open to the public. You will have the garden with its woodlands and collection of rare and unusual plants to roam in alone after closing hours; see our Craigieburn garden and nursery Facebook page for more photos and comments from our many friends and followers. The bothy has no running water or electricity so is a real alternative experience, with toilet and washing facilities with hot water 200m away at the main house. Otherwise we aim to provide all home comforts with king-size bed, comfy chairs, well-equipped kitchenette, candles & wind-up lights and a wood-burning stove with plentiful logs to create a cosy atmosphere. Seats and barbeque facilities are available outside.
There is good mobile phone coverage and a wifi signal outside the main house. Car parking is available next to the bothy (up steps). Bikes can be safely stored beside the bothy. The hilly nature of the garden and steps mean that the bothy is not suitable for disabled people.
Single house-trained and well-behaved dogs (who don’t jump on furniture) are welcome.

Moffat is an attractive small former spa town with many good shops, a Co-op supermarket, cafes, restaurants, pubs and chippies.
Craigieburn garden itself is a main attraction which in addition to its range of different planting is full of wildlife including owls, woodpeckers, woodland birds and song-birds, badgers and occasional red squirrels.
Craigieburn is great for walking and cycling. It lies about 1km from the Southern Upland Way (on Section 7 Beattock to St Mary’s Loch) and about 2km from the Annandale Way. It is set among the Moffat hills (Hart fell, Devil’s Beeftub, Saddle Yoke etc) with more modest riverside and Gallow hill walks, and with the other Dumfriesshire dales further west. There are local woodland walks in the forests behind the bothy on Criagieburn hill and Hunterheck. It is located on the scenic A708 road to Selkirk, leading to the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall and St Mary's loch, and part of the challenging Talla Wall cycle route, described as one of ‘Britain’s five best road cycling climbs’ and can be cycled in a circuit from here.
Moffat is one of Scotland’s Dark Skies towns with excellent night-time visibility for star-gazers (and we can provide a telescope)

I've known Craigieburn for just over two years and married to Janet who has been here much longer and was responsible for developing the garden here, with the help of Dawa Sherpa.
