Description

The space

World-class architecture and a stunning peninsula setting come together to create this truly unique and special retreat. Nestled intimately amongst a forest of ancient pohutukawa, glass, steel and timber merge to create this masterpiece that we've called The Glasshouse. With floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides, one gets a sense of being "in" the environment rather than observing it from afar. A unique bathroom facility in a seperate building just down from the house itself. Electric opening window in this separate building will allow you to feel you’re showering in nature.

When staying at the Glasshouse you will have the tip of the Peninsula to yourself, thus creating the ultimate in privacy.

We will meet you at the property upon arrival and show you the house and we will on call should you need any assistance re the place. Other than that you will not be disturbed. We will also be there to help you when you check out.

This property is located close to the end of a long private right away.

The Glasshouse has a private walking track for you to enjoy and for those inclined there's a stairway/track that leads you to the rocks below where you just might be able to catch a fish or on a sunny day, go for a swim!. Fishing gear available.

Full in-house or pre-pepared catering available. Please enquire when booking.

The Glasshouse is in a uniquely gorgeous location. If you want solitude in a beautiful setting, this definitely has it. The walls on three sides are enormous glass doors that slide open, which creates an amazing breeze and sense of being in the beautiful nature around you. There is an option to have a chef prepare meals for you which I did, and they were delicious, charmingly presented, and with very generous portions. Susanne and Paul, who manage the property, were absolutely wonderful. I had a personal emergency on the second day of my four days there, and Susanne was incredibly helpful and kind. I had a couple of objections, though. The bathroom situation, as described, is a completely different building. The problem is that it really isn't that close to the house. I stepped it off and it is about 100 ft away, and down a hill. This proved to be a considerable inconvenience since it rained while I was there quite a bit. The home’s very modern architecture does not have any kind of handrails, and when it was raining one night, I twisted my ankle on the uneven steps going outside to the bathroom, fell, and injured my shoulder, elbow, ankle and sprained my wrist. This obviously put a damper on the enjoyment of the experience. For some reason, the house also makes really loud creaking sounds at night that sometimes rise to the level of banging. I have no idea what it could be, but it was loud enough to wake me, and be a little alarming for a woman traveling alone. It is also worth noting that there is no cell service at all at the house and there is no landline. It is necessary to drive or walk up to the top of the hill to get any kind of telephone reception, which is more of an issue than one might think in an emergency. In summary, the Glasshouse is an interesting place that offers both a dramatic landscape and peaceful solitude, with lovely hosts, but be fully aware, with the bathroom not only outside but so far away, especially when it is raining, in my opinion, this property falls under the umbrella of “Glamping” at a very high price.

Response from Susanne:
Hi Rebecca, thank you for your considered response and the positive points you have made. However, to be fair we would like to clarify a couple of issues. The separate luxury shower and toilet facility is an "architectural feature" and part of the "uniqueness" of this property - it is something that sets it apart from being "normal". The distance between buildings...... The pathway, on a shallow grade, is only 50ft in length, not 100ft. You also mention the lack of cell phone coverage and no landline. So future clients know, we need to point out that the house has a reliable internet connection, so one is not isolated without communication and most guests use the various methods of communication through the internet. This is how we regularly communicated with you through the AirBnB app. Thanks again for staying. This response is simply a clarification for future guests.

The Glass house is perfect. It has to be in one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever been to. There is complete privacy and all day long we were just repeating to each other that we couldn't imagine anywhere more beautiful than this. My husband and I spent a week here and wish that we never had to leave. When we arrived at the house Paul and Susanne had stocked the kitchen with wonderful food and drinks. Throughout the week, they were so generous to us. Open to any requests and eager to help us out. They shared their fishing gear and their son even took my husband spearfishing! The house is beautifully decorated and everything you touch in this home has been carefully planned. It is very luxurious and modern.Paul and Susanne have kept it in like-new condition. I can't say enough positive things about this house or the hosts.
