Quiet country surroundings with so much natural beauty. Contemporary, compact Scandinavian-style barn on two levels combining elements of comfort and light. The Birch ply interior, wool carpet and heat pump create a warm and cosy vibe. The Barn is set in a rural landscape overlooking a lovely large pond inhabited by local birdlife. Being only 10-mins drive from Dunedin city centre and 3 mins to historic Port Chalmers and some of the best beaches and coastal scenery Otago has to offer all nearby.

The space
Blanket Bay Barn provides accomodation for two people and is located away from the main house with private parking directly outside. An open plan relaxed space with a comfortable snug lounge a large coffee table and flatscreen tv. Enjoy looking at and/or purchasing art from well known local artists that will be on display in the barn . The brand new kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, microwave , fridge/freezer, coffee plunger, jug and toaster. For dining out options (as there is no oven )we recommend eating locally in Port Chalmers , The Carey’s Bay Hotel ( they will also deliver meals to you at The Barn between 4 and 6 pm ) or Dunedin restaurants ( 10 minutes drive ) you'll be spoilt for choice. Complimentary breakfast of Muesli , milk , bread, eggs, teas and freshly roasted coffee from our roastery for you to enjoy in the mornings. Compact bathroom with roomy walk in shower , heated towel rail , quality towels and eco/organic body products. Up the staircase is the loft bedroom where there is Queensize bed with Organic cotton mattress and luxurious linen and an opening skylight. The large sliding glass door opens out onto the decked area off the lounge which overlooks the pond.

Where you’ll be

Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand

The Barn is a great base if you want to explore the area or just relax. The local Port to Port ferry offer a range of scenic and wildlife tours where you can see albatross , penguins and seals , take a trip over to Portobello ( you can take bikes on board also ) . After your Harbour cruise you also have the option of getting dropped off at The Carey’s Bay Hotel for dinner who also run a courtesy van. Historical Port Chalmers has an interesting mix of cafes ( Union Cafe has xlnt coffee and pasteries for breakfast and lunch) shops, museum, galleries, supermarket , chemist and eateries. Take a drive to Orokonui Ecosanctuary then over to Blueskin Bay - Waitati and Warrington , great places to visit and beautiful beach walks in the region.
