Where you’ll be

Khet Bangkok Noi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Thailand

Theatre Residence’s home is located in Khet Bangkok Noi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Thailand.

The neighborhood is called Wang Lang meaning "The Palace behind the Grand Palace".

The land was part of the Grand Palace where the royal artists resided as they lived and practiced their performances for the Royal Family in the early days. This unique landmark was bestowed to Khun Ying Supatra by the Royal Family where her daughter, the National artist Pataravadi built the first opened-air live performance theatre in Bangkok to preserve and create the performance art of Thai culture.

Blending between the past and the presence, the third generation of Khun Ying Suptara, Khun Velvadi Sritrairatana daughter of Pataravadi redefined this unique land and opened the Theatre Residence boutique hotel with the sense of the past rich history intact.

As you walk around the hotel, you will reminisce pieces of the past plays displaying as museum art around the hotel. Along with the Palace's original wall still preserved alongside the grand 160 years old tree.

Come be a part of the history of Theatre Residence.

In 1992 Theatre Residence was known as Patravadi Theatre, Bangkok’s first open-air theatre and a centre for contemporary performing arts in Thailand. It was located in Bangkok, Thonburi side in one of Bangkok‘s oldest neighborhoods, across the Chao Phraya River from the Grand Palace, beside the royal temple Wat Rakang, It was in a typical Thai setting of authentic old scenes of the Ratanakosin Era. Today, Patravadi Theatre has extended its outreach beyond Bangkok, to other parts of Thailand and engraved the soul of performing arts to the property. That’s how ‘Theatre Residence’ has come into being, where it has been developed into a glasshouse riverside Hotel & Serviced Residence to welcome travellers, who are passionate about exploring ways of native living in art and culture of traditional surroundings.
